It has been working fine for more than 6 months with this copy of xp and the bo. appreciate the help speedy.problems only started a little while ago. so, I have deduced that it must be a hardware fault, even though tis seems surprising to me bacause of what i mentioned earlier. 686661 2008-07-16 08:23:00 A set of recovery disks from another computer will not work correctly with your machine as the installation on those disks is only intended for the motherboard and hardware on that (1st) computer (the CPU, chipset (eg VIA/Intel/SIS etc controls onboard sound/video/LAN/etc) and other hardware will be different, and incompatible with your machine), its not b****y surprising you're having problems!
Get a (legit) copy of Xp and install that, see if that helps.
