| 686615 | 2008-07-10 05:27:00 | 1.change the zonealarm setting from high to medium 2. go to control panel/add & remove programmes. 3. tick the box saying "show updates". 3. scroll down to Windows XP. Uninstall the latest update (kb951748). 4. restart computer (You should get a message saying so). 5. change zonealarm setting back to high. 6. turn off automatic updates - go to windows update page, click "pick time to install updates", click "more options", click "notify me but don't automatically download or install them". 7. when you shut down your computer you will get a message that gives the option to shut down without installing updates. you need to click on it each time. Zonealarm are working on the problem. I wonder if xp/sp3 due for release tomorrow (Friday) will help or hinder the situation? | paulmc (13942) | ||

| 686619 | 2008-07-11 00:07:00 | Glad I read this before I got this MS update! Got the same problem - using Zonealarm. Ended up uninstalling Zonealarm - and noticed my download test speeds jumped from approx 2MBPS to 3.5MBPS!! (just with Windows firewall turned on) So put on Comodo firewall and whislt this is a bit more confusing than Zonealarm - my download speeds are still up at 3MBPSish. So obviously Zonealarm slows down internet traffic quite significantly!! |

| 686620 | 2008-07-11 01:09:00 | I managed to update ZA last night thanks to the link posted on here, for some reason i couldnt otherwise get ZA to update when it says to here, on my pc, so fresh link helped. took ages to download..dial up and updated last night, shut down and Windows updates kicking in at shut to but seems all good this morning so ZA did good, and Microsoft ....well best not said ..... :) thanks people for the heads up about not windows updates, but Za killing it, due to MS stuff up. all fixed and going good. beetle :) |

| 686621 | 2008-07-11 02:16:00 | Its not just ZA, there are one or two other as well, although ZA is the most common one. The new one cures the problem. However, this is what bugs me about MS and their updates. I have ZA 4, and it works just fine, a lot less bloat than the newer versions. I do not like Comodo. Anyway having been using a computer of some sort for 23 years and the internet for the last 15 years, and all this time various vulnerabilities existed in all the 8 O/Ss I have used, I have had a grand total of 4 malware files. Only 2 of them ever caused a problem. And I have never downloaded an MS update for anything. |
