| 426593 | 2006-02-03 03:32:00 | You make good sense Bruce. I agree that you'd have to be pretty stupid and greedy to fall for a Nigerian scam. But is seems stupidity knows no bounds. Just look at all the prople who are into "alternative therapy" or who are convinced that it's possible to talk to the dead, or who voted for George Bush. ;) |

| 426595 | 2006-02-03 03:51:00 | People who fall for this stuff should not be allowed to breed . Sounds like they need 'diversion therapy' so they: a) don't have time to breed b) don't have time for greed . I suggest classes in pulling out nasal hair, very distracting and you definitely know the pain of losing something . (just thought it would give some relevence to Metla's apparently random post) |

But also I am committed to trying to understand other people's motives rather than put them into the "too hard" bin . I can only think, since at least some of them are apparently competent in other aspects of their lives, that it is hormonal . The excitement, the heart flutters, "It just might work! And then you are on a high, adrenaline, pheromones, all that stuff . They're like heavy drug users or alcoholics . Into the Buzz and Gone . Maybe, all I can think of anyway . Otherwise, how could they be so stupid? |

| 426597 | 2006-02-03 04:52:00 | Hey, its their money. Its there right to throw it away on a scam. Although they could throw it my way instead. :D Scams have been around since man has been around. They just take different forms. |

| 426598 | 2006-02-03 05:22:00 | Just musing, but if somebody were to set up the same type of scam in OZ and spam-email it to Nigeria, how many Nigerians do you think would fall for it? What do you think the results might say about the collective intelligence of the email/internet users of the two countries. Cheers Billy 8-{) Remember, that great Aussie symbol the kangaroo is hoplessly addicted to jumping in front of fast moving cars and trucks. |

Nigeria is a poor country - There wouldn't be as many targets because a good portion of them wouldn't be able to afford internet & if they shell out the deposit required to get the milions of dollars, they might not be able to feed their family while they wait on the money. |

| 426601 | 2006-02-03 06:32:00 | Nigeria is a poor country - There wouldn't be as many targets because a good portion of them wouldn't be able to afford internet & if they shell out the deposit required to get the milions of dollars, they might not be able to feed their family while they wait on the money. Nigeria has a wealthy elite that is easily as big as NZ's, and possibly that of Australia. Oil revenues are $US 10-14 Billion per year and 80% of that is in the hands of 1% of the population. So, with a total population of 133 million, that makes 1.3 million people sharing 80% of $US10 Billion in a bad year. (Source: Google) I think they have enough people with dollars in their pockets to be worth scamming. So, I wonder just how many would fall for it? They have the greed factor in spades, but I'll bet there would be very few takers. Maybe I could sell Parliament buildings (including the Beehive harem) as the redundant palace of an exiled President wanting to get his loot out of NZ? :D Discretion guaranteed. Cheers Billy ]8{) |
