| 426147 | 2006-02-05 23:32:00 | Most DVD recorders come with a scart plug or a standard rca lead with three plugs at both ends. I myself dont use the standard lead as the picture quality isnt as great. if you happen to have sky which i do you use the scart plug from that and plug it into the scart input on the dvd harddrive recorder and then if you are lucky enough to have component out outputs on you recorder you then plug the other end of the component lead which are red green and blue into the back of the cvi input of your tv.The result is stunning picture clarity much clearer than s video, infact you will get dvd quality pictures using cvi. | technophobia (8565) | ||

| 426149 | 2006-02-14 02:14:00 | I bought this Philips DVD recorder 10 days ago and so far so good . I have been recorded several programs both using the timer record function and by hiting the record button . I have one problem though (which may well be user error!) . . for timer record to work the machine must be in Standby mode . If you are watching something through the machine you get a message telling you to turn it off so that timer record can begin . That is fine if you are watching at that moment . However if you are out and someone has left the machine on then I assume timer record doesn't begin . I have tried to activated the system menu setting to turn the unit to standby after 30 mins of no activity but even when left overnight it doesn't turn itself off . Has anyone else come across this? Any idea how to solve it (aside from getting in the habit of turning it off when you switch the TV off that is)? As I say above otehrwise it is working well and I am very pleased with it . |

| 426150 | 2009-01-07 00:50:00 | Philips DVDR Overview - An owner's viewpoint... I bought a Philips DVDR3455H 160 GB HDD and DVD Player Recorder with VCR Plus (Model Number DVDR3455H/37) back around Sept of 2005 for which I paid $350.00 for. During this time, I have manged to record well over 1,000 shows, of which about 40-50% of these recordings were transferred to DVD-R and RW Media Discs and I have used the formatting and editing features of this DVDR extensively during this period. On Saturday, 1/3/2009, after just finishing moving some HDD Recordings onto a DVD Disc, my next attempt at doing so failed half-way through. This I know because of the blank screen that I was looking at and none of the remote's buttons would register, so I just unplugged and re-plugged it and figured I would try the HDD to DVD attempt one more try (this happened a couple times before within the last few months). Unfortunately, this time, the Philip's HDD Drive would not reboot (acted like a stuck Disc was in it, but there wasn't one (I had taken it out after repeated ejections). All I got was a blue screen with some start-up grinding noise and then a short breeder and it was repeating this over and over again. So, here I am with NO DVDR (but fortunately, I did have a backup DVD Pioneer Recorder which is great except for no Hard Drive and which I am now currently using as a replacement. Due to the over-use that I probably gave the Philips DVDR, I probably just burnt the drive out (though, you think that a Drive should last for a lot longer than a little over 2 years). It may also worthwhile to note that 2-3 Days before, one of the DVD's was found to be unrecognizable by the Philips DVDR and just kept on spinning and spinning and etc, so I used the repeated ejection button pressing described from some other user's who have had similar problems like this one.:annoyed: Having said all of that, here is my complete assessment of this Philips DVDR: From Day 1, it has shown various minor to more serious problems, such as Remote buttons not responding if not pushed down correctly (sometimes I had to press on the key several times and point it directly at the DVDR unit before the button registered), Keys not being repeatable, finding perfectly good DVD's (as recommended in the manual) as bad Discs which it couldn't even format using the special Optical Disk Formatting that is included on one of the Menu's, phantom DVDR lock-up for no reason other than leaving it on for more than two to four days in a row (unplugging/re-pluggings it back in was the only option, etc. When I first bought this Philips, someone had posted a large number of issues with it - mostly small. The biggest annoyance and probably the worst in my opinion, was it's inability to read another DVD recorded from another DVR (and which was finalized). It wouldn't lock up the DVDR, but did find it as being an unreadable bad format. The only option left was to either re-format the disc or simply use another Disc. In most cases, I chose the latter, since I didn't want to lose the data on it. Oh, and speaking of finalizing, the Philips that I have did not allow the ability to finalize the Disc so that it can be viewed on other Recorders. However, this may just be because the Disc finalization was automatic when recording to a DVD, since they played fine on my other Pioneer DVD Recorder as well as on a DVD Player that I have as well.:stare: Early on (within 3-6 months of buying it), sometimes when I recorded an hour long Television Show on the Philips Hard Drive, it would Skip or Hang-up while attempting to watch it directly from the Hard Drive. This happened off and on before, until this one time when I was watching another recorded Show, it locked up completely after about 25 minutes (the Drive would not go beyond that particular area of the disc no matter what I did). As a side note, before this happened, the Drive would still lock-up, but only temporarily (I was able to Fast-Forward through to a good section part of the recording). I was, however, able to press the 'Stop' button on the remote and stop the locked-up show which then placed me back Hard Drive's list of Recordings, after which, I renamed the Show's title to "BAD SECTOR - DO NOT DELETE". This locked-up Show has been on the Hard Drive now ever since and still is today, except now the Hard Drive won't boot up. I felt that by renaming this file instead of deleting it, the bad sector of the Hard Drive would be used up and that any other Hard Drive Recordings would now be oblivious to this bad sector area. In any case, it seems to have worked because I do know that since the renaming and keeping of the recorded Show, I rarely had another lock-up while watching a recorded Show.:crying In ending, I would give it the following Ratings (the higher, the better unless noted otherwise)::2cents: Overall Performance: 6 Video Quality: 8 Sound Quality: 8 Recording Quality 9 (Depending on the Setting) HD to DVD Quality: 8 HD Durability: 5 Lock-up Issues 9 (High in this case is bad) Would I buy another one? Only if Philips could prove to me that their latest model is more reliable and worth the money, than the one that just died on me. Well, that's it. Best of luck with your Philips, should you be lucky or unlucky enough to own one. A disgruntle Philips buyer. |

| 426153 | 2009-01-07 03:47:00 | Is there any other kind? x2. I'm happy Philips have ditched NZ, their products are below par in a market with players including Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic and Samsung. |
