425765 2006-01-31 23:28:00 After playing a few of the latest games for a decent amount of time (Q4, FEAR, NFS:MW, COD2) and not being overly impressed by any of them I decided to step back in time . . .

I resurrected my old 233MHz MMX w/ 128MB EDO, chucked in a new optical drive and started loading on the masses of old games (including a tower of floppies) I have hoarded over the years for DOS and Win9x . The process has been frustrating, enlightening and now just plain fun :) A mate of mine also got into the spirit of things and we have had a couple of IPX LAN games :) Duke Nukem 3D is priceless for death matches

I wouldn't mind playing some of the forementioned racing sims though - I got a Logitech Driving Force a few years back - no 900deg turn but its very fun to use - it was also branded as a PS2 wheel but being USB I was sure it would work on PC with the right driver - it did! :) :)

Great game, used to play that for hours.

I'm an old school gamer myself, used to play heaps 10 years ago.

My list of games that I play often are:

Command and Conquer: Red Alert (the original of course)
Total Annihilation
Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne
Command and Conquer: Generals
Unreal Tournament Classic (I find it to be better than the newer versions, esp. when LAN'ing)

There are a few other games, but I don't play them very often. Should play Half-Life 2 again though, that game is awesome.

425767 2006-02-01 00:56:00 Total AnnihilationThat game absorbed me for quite a while, but never really liked it. Believe it had a huge following in it's day. Greg (193)

When they used to rank players I hit around 900th in the world (against about 56 000 registered players at the time), and I soundly thrashed the 600th world's best player. So I was on my way up, until they discontinued the rankings :(

425769 2006-02-01 01:02:00 Speaking of Raptor - I seem to remember there being a hidden game in it similar to Scorched Earth. It was really fun - almost as fun as the main game :)

Anyone remember how to access it?

425770 2006-02-01 01:11:00 Are the only games that you play all Violent???? they sound extremely violent . . . . . :waughh:

beetle
I also (still) own Jewels of the Oracle . A puzzle game . Not one of those silly move blocks or whatever baby puzzles . This one you first have to figure out what the point is, then how to solve it . And they are all different . Took months the first time . . . .

Scorched Earth was a great game - almost as fun as worms :).

I still play total annihilation ocassionly, but usually only single player. I've heard the expansions for it are pretty cool, but I've never found them for sale in new zealand.

I never really got into tiberium sun, but I was given a copy for free, so I might start playing it again. Generals: Zero Hour is an awesome game, but it always causes problems when me & my friends try to play it on a LAN. Also, my old ti4200 can't keep up with the big battles.

425772 2006-02-01 02:19:00 The old X-Com games, were the games i played the most, horribly addictive too

played them again recently and had to stop playing them as it was getting in the way of work
