Thanks Do yourself a big favor and save another $100 and pick up a 9600GT (minimum gaming card most would agree) for around $190 . $80-90 is a LOT of money to spend on 8600GT that won't perform as you would like and won't cut the mustard . Even if there are ones that are only $50-100 above. Plus the PSU is only 300w and 18a. i thought the min req. for a 9600 was 450w? Thanks |

Thanks The recommend is 400watt, keep in mind that total system load not the actual video requiring 400watt, so it largely depends whats in your system, ie two HDD's opposed to one etc. Yes playing COD4 at 640x480 is a large crime and should be arrested, may as well run a ZX Spectrum (god bless them RIP) But yes a new PSU is would be required, but I am never a fan of cheap upgrades where you may not be happy. I have two 8600GT 's in two rigs hear, they go great for low end games for the wife etc, but they are not gaming cards and don't even think Crysis lol. |

Thanks it will run it, but beware cheap low rated PSU's = bad times, always get a good brand of PSU cheaping out there will cost you in the long run . If your wanting to game the 8600 will disappoint you, spend the extra and get an 8800gt or 9600gt, both cards are good value for money and can tackle most games . |

| 686551 | 2008-07-09 22:41:00 | You could ask your son to contribute. When you think about it, if he's prepared to fork out $100 for a game, there's no good reason why he shouldn't want to put a little in for a better graphics card. I'd suggest (as others here have) a 9600GT for a budget card. |
