2006-01-31 20:35:00 | On many games the force feedback values have to be moved into the negatives when using a Momo, That aside I can assure you that whoever decided the Saitek wheel is better was on drugs. The Momo and its elitist brother the Driving Force Pro are considered by just about the entire planet to be the 2 best wheels on the market, well at least in the sane price range, You can get wheels that cost upwards of a couple grand that are considered better but these are generally made by companies that make full on simulator machines for driver training. If you want futher reading on the quality of wheels (and the Momo does have its faults, but not in comparison to any Saitek product) then many thousands of posts have been made on the subject at the nets largest Race-sim site www.rscnet.org

2006-01-31 21:04:00 | Ok, thanks for clearing that up Metla. I find the MOMO very stiff to turn with ffeedback turned on (even to minimum). Is there anyway to losen it up? Or do I just have to get used to it? I didn't realise it was possible to turn it to negative. What is the point of this? Why not just turn ffeedback off? I think I need to read some manuals about it, heh. Or read Metla. Think im going to get rFactor tonight.

2006-01-31 21:23:00 | Negative values reverse the situation where the wheel may pull to the outside when it should be pushing to the centre, If it was happening then you would click on pretty fast, You would hit an object in-game and the wheel would jerk towards it rather then away from it, and exiting corners the wheel would try and roll to teh extreme left or right.... As for FFB strength, You should have a quite detailed wingman control panel that lets you set up a number of paraemetrs,Plus whatever ingame options are available. The idea (IMO anyhow) is to get enough information through the wheel to enhance the immersion and control of the car without it hampering your speed. Arcade racers don't do this well at all and just go for the crash and bash approach. If you get rFactor then check out www.simcentral.co.nz Its a local place, full of good people who race online all week. They also have a "super rFactor" thread that contains far more info and links then you would ever need to know. Hopefully tonight I may get a chance to crank the SuperKart mod around the Taupo track....

2006-01-31 22:09:00 | Personally I spend the vast majority of my PC gaming time playing race sims, The downside to them are they take practice, but once you learn the knack your good to go, but don't expect instant results, you have to learn the layout of the track, and how to aproach and leave each corner, Once you get up to speed and are driving around corners on the edge of control you hit gaming nirvana. Well, I do at least, Cranking around Bathurst as dusk decends is a joy in itself, These games give so much more then the arcade racers that it blows me away, Though they ask for more in return. That, and the fact you need a good wheel, a decent rig to keep the frame rates up, and respect for the throttle pedal. I still finish many gaming sessions by shoving the wheel away in disgust. The upside for a game like rFactor is that the add-ons will keep coming constantly for the next few years, and the quality will keep on rising, You can pick and choose exactly what tracks, cars, mods suit what you want to play. And thier is plenty of local flavour, Some of the posters at simcentral.co.nz are working on NZ stockcar tracks, saloon cars, Stock Cars, Plus the already mentioned Taupo track, and Manfeild which is currently being worked on.

2006-01-31 22:31:00 | Just that the damn cost of a Momo wheel is outta my reach at the moment. Moving into the new house is costing heaps. I mean... 200 bucks for a new vid card, or 200 bucks for a new gas bbq? bbq wins. 250 bucks for a new vid card, or 250 bucks for oil to do the deck? Deck oil wins. Etc etc :( :groan: | Greg (193) | |
