425351 2006-01-30 03:10:00 There was supposed to be an RNZAF flyover for the regatta at 11am today.

Does the RNZAF still own a jet?

Yes, a couple of 757s I believe. :p

No single seaters or attack jets though.

Cheers

425354 2006-01-30 05:07:00 No attack capability? Plenty. (www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/flash/photo/attack/sequence/tower_sequence.htm) Graham L (2)
425355 2006-01-30 05:36:00 All I noticed this morning (I was in the Fo Guang Shan temple, Flat Bush) were normal aeroplanes zooming in and out of the Manukau Airport. Speaking of the temple, HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!! :D Enjoy your "doggy" year (note: not dodgy).

Cheers :)

425357 2006-01-30 06:40:00 I thought the flyover was supposed to be done by a P-3 Orion (www.fas.org). Antmannz (6583)

I doubt that there's a Gloster Meteor flying in this neck of the woods, though it is not impossible However, there are only three left airworthy in the UK.

Some quick research suggests that The English Electric Canberra is even lighter on the ground, I couldn't find any flying examples.

The Herald tomorrow morning will probably reveal that it was something much more modern.

Just clicked! It was probably the restored Hawker Hunter from Ardmore. It has twin pods (tanks?) under the wings and a tailplane midway in height between the Canberra and the Meteor. At the distance I was viewing from, that would fit perfectly with the profile I saw and the level of noise. :D
