Almost a couple of years ago I got my IRD statement, most of my repayments was going off into interest with hardly any payments being used to pay off the principal loan, I wanted to increase the payment amount, well that was some jerk off, you had to either got to the bank set up a automatic payment and pay the bank $10 in the process or you had to apply for a special tax code so the pay clerk at work could increase the the amount of weekly deduction form ones pay packet, well I got the forms but one thing lead to another and I never got around to getting any further ... and then the elections came along and promises from some joker that does not even know how much money they have in the bank no wonder NZ is so over its head with debt. Now the latest brainwave how about I ring up the IRD and give them my credit card number and they can have $500 or what ever? Oh no that is too simple, too simple for the ****** IRD department, you could ring up some 0800 number advertised on TV give them your credit card number and your goods will turn up some days latter, but not with IRD you have to go there website and play around wasting your time, I have ordered things from Amazon and paid with my credit card it was P****** easy to do it and the goods all came no problem, the process is a dream. Not so with IRD. I have just been to to their web site to make a payment, what abortion, it is not like Amazon web site. Now I would of, if I controlled the web site have in big bold red font YOU OWE MONEY one clicks onto that, somewhere on the next page you see YOU WOULD LIKE TO PAY US NOW then on the third page you can easy see STUDENT LOANS and bingo you get a page to fill on your details and complete the process JUST LIKE ABC OF AMAZON WEBSITE. Maybe I will try later and see if I can complete the mission without been stuffed around, something Amazon website does not do. |

Yeah well their website is pretty crude. I couldn't really see the point of paying with a credit card myself. Of course after the 1st of April (as long as you live in NZ), it won't really matter as there is no interest, so just stick your money into a savings account. Heh, now that plan hardly encourages people to pay it back :D Although I can see the minimum repayments being increased....... |

That said there are heaps of ways to pay back your loan . . . you can even walk into a westpac and pay over the counter . . ird . govt . nz/how-to/making-payments/" target="_blank">www . ird . govt . nz |

This is only available online - you cannot pay by credit card over the counter or or by phone. A fee of 2.49% is applied by our bank, Westpac Banking Corporation. We do not receive any part of this fee. " Why do you want to pay the extra penalty? |

| 425469 | 2006-01-31 01:22:00 | I'm surprised the IRD allow credit card payments at all!! They probably have their own contract with the credit card companies, and you could hardly call them a "merchant". |

Besides the fact that interest on student loans is far cheaper than credit cards, I don't think the IRD would allow it. It's much easier to pay over the counter, or via direct debit. I know my bank - Kiwibank - allows payments to the IRD via its internet banking system - who do you bank with?? |
