687691 2008-07-10 21:12:00 Hi Guys,

I have a friends laptop that comes up with several blue screens of death when booting up and when logging on to various users.

It is a Compac Pressario V6000 running XP.

I think it has been infected with trojans etc.

Unfortunately there is no System Restore Point that I can roll back to.

I am running several anti-malware tools on it.

Is there anyway I can run an OS refresh etc to put it back to standard ?

687692 2008-07-10 21:38:00 What BSODS exactly? Tell us the STOP error. pctek (84)
687693 2008-07-11 02:08:00 There are several.

They come up when I click on a User.

They system shows the Blue Screen of death then tries to re-start and another BSOD comes up.

Here they are

K-mode exception not handled
Bogus Driver
Bad Pool Head
Maximum wait objects exceeded
No more irp stack locations
Sys Intervals great site
Page Fault in non paged area
Unexpected Kernel mode trap

There are other issues with this machine.

Should I mention them here or on a new thread ?

687694 2008-07-11 02:15:00 It sounds like its been infected and its stuffed

I would either restore / reinstall Vista

Or chuck its hdd in a working system and scan it

Just dont put anything like P2P programs on it once you fix it

Thanks for that, I tend to agree.

It has XP on it.
I have installed and repaired XP on desk tops using my XP disk.

But as this is a Laptop and a Compac I have no idea where to start.

Any suggestions ?

687696 2008-07-11 02:59:00 Do the same thing, if its got the same version as yours. Just use your cd and use the key that this has got, to reinstall XP

You'll have to go to the Compaq / HP site for the drivers.Hopefully, there's drivers for it, or it wont have LAN / sound, or anything else

687698 2008-07-11 06:00:00 See my reply (by "Auke") given to a topic (11/7/08) title "Blue Screen of Death BSoD".

My strong advice: replace the current RAM instead of spending weeks in agony that gets you nowhere.

Thanks Guys for all you suggestions

I found the restore option with F11.

And I have got it going again.

Just got to set up software etc.

Brilliant thanks a lot.

687700 2008-07-11 12:50:00 Once you've got it going again, is a good idea to do this

If the Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix the system errors, use the set of Recovery disks that you created to recover the hard drive to its original condition :punk
