687260 2008-07-09 22:55:00 My Hp Pavillion a645c doesn't recognize audio CD's, DVD's, nor game CD's. Whenever I try to fix it by going to the control panel it says that "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." My task manager has the same effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. aniloracman3 (13950)
687261 2008-07-10 06:15:00 sounds like there could be some nasties in your comp disabling task manager etc

click start/run and copy/paste the following into the run box and click "ok"

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

get Hijack This (in my sig) and do a scan and post the log back here

687263 2008-07-21 19:02:00 I recently had my computer worked on by a guy who fixed it, but I assume that he put himself as the system administrator. Is there anyway to change that to myself? aniloracman3 (13950)
687264 2008-07-21 19:23:00 Only if you can log into an administrator account as you need to be administrator to do that gary67 (56)
687265 2008-07-22 01:10:00 The trojan remover in Speedy's sig sometimes removes restrictions caused by nasties Blam (54)
687266 2008-07-22 04:36:00 How would I do that Gary? aniloracman3 (13950)
687267 2008-07-22 04:43:00 "My Computer" reads: Files Stored on this Computer:Shared Documents
Owner's Documents. Hard Disk Drives:HP_Pavillion (C) HP_Recovery(D:) Devices with Removable Storage:Removable Disk (H:) " "(I:) " "(J:) " "(K) Other: My Sharing Folders I don't know if this helps or whatever, I appologize for being so technically inaccurate and not tech savvy.

687268 2008-07-22 05:31:00 OK - first lets see if it does in fact have a admin password on the admin account

Go to start menu -> control Panel

Double click "User Accounts"

In the User acc Manager that pops up - the first line says "Change my name"

Does the second line say "Change my password" OR "Create a password" ?
