428569 2006-02-08 21:16:00 Can anyone suggest where to look for an oldish TV series on DVD? I'm looking for Lonesome Dove, which I know is available on VHS, but I no longer have a video player.

Thanks.

There are two copies on http://www.realgroovy.co.nz/ Go the website and enter Lonesome Dove in Search.

Note that both are region 1 so your DVD player will need to be multi zone. One is a collection with other movies included, so much more expensive.

I don't think those are the TV series version. There have been older movies and other versions of this title.

LONESOME DOVE is the acclaimed TV Western saga based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Larry McMurtry. As the story begins, two former Texas Rangers (Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones) leave the Texas town of LONESOME DOVE on a 3,000-mile cattle drive to the unsettled ranch country of Montana. This epic film features outstanding performances by an impressive cast that also consists of Anjelica Huston, Danny Glover, Frederic Forrest, Chris Cooper, and many more.

The second one ($87.95) says:

6 DVD Set. LONESOME DOVE: The television western saga from the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Larry Mc Murtry that started it all. Two life-long friends, former Texas Rangers, lead a colorful band of cowhands on a dangerous 3,000 mile cattle drive.

STREETS OF LAREDO: Texas Ranger Captain Call takes on one last mission, tracking down a killer as a freelance bounty hunter. With Pea Eye Parker tagging along, he crosses paths with such western luminaries as Judge Roy Bean and John Wesley Hardin.

DEAD MAN'S WALK: The miniseries prequel offers the first adventures for Gus and Call, the rough-and-tumble heroes of the previous works, as they try to carve out their own piece of the wild Texas frontier.

BTW, I have no connection with Real Groovy!

428575 2006-02-08 22:28:00 Thanks folks. The NZ$30 price is great for exactly what I'm after.

Dunno why I didn't think of Real Groovy myself.

Cheers!

PS - if anyone who's enjoyed the TV series but not read the book... read the book. It's excellent. (although I haven't really enjoyed any of his other novels).
