427707 2006-02-08 06:02:00 All I can recommend Murray, is that if the quality of the entire setup is mirrored by the Plessey speakers, just dig a hole in the back garden and bury the lot.

Then go to the Red Shed and pay about $250 for a system that will sound better.

Some years ago now I purchased a new stereo that had small bookshelf speakers. I also own a pair of genuine english Goodman speakers in mahogany cabinets, the size of bedside cabinets (larger actually). Problem was, the cheap bookshelf speakers would p all over the expensive Goodmans ones. Technology moves on, just get the gorse out of your pockets and move with it?

427708 2006-02-08 06:09:00 Poopers!! How can I justify a project when you give me info like that, eh! :dogeye: Murray P (44)
427709 2006-02-08 06:32:00 David Reid have a shop in Sydney, can only assume it's the same outfit.

DJR started in an old house in Auburn St, Takapuna on the North Shore of Auckland and had one traveller on the road.
They moved into retail as soon as they opened their first big shop next door to the old house.

DJR sold out to DSE, lock stock & barrel so I doubt that the David Reid in Sydney is the same company. They might be playing on the name perhaps, though DJR never operated in OZ to the best of my knowledge so it wouldn't attract any business on that account.

Sadly DSE have gone all retail appliance now with plenty of PFYs but ever-shrinking component lines so Jaycar are now the only company worth visiting now for the electronics enthusiast.

Don't listen to them Murray, just do it for love, restoring old crap is enormously satisfying, as long as you understand that it will still be old crap when you finish. I've restored some fairly decrepit stuff to working order just for the pleasure of seeing it work again and using it once in a while.

Mrs T has often threatened to do the same to me, but having seen her kitchen toolkit, and in the absence of a decent blueprint, I'm a bit apprehensive that she might not reassemble all the bits in the right order again.

427711 2006-02-08 07:10:00 Murray, David Reid used to have a retail shop in Queens Drive almost opposite to Queensgate, on the other side of the road to DSE. Terry Porritt (14)
427712 2006-02-08 07:21:00 Thanks for the encouragement Billy.

427713 2006-02-09 00:11:00 ... so Jaycar are now the only company worth visiting now for the electronics enthusiast.Theres one advantage to living in Christchurch ... South Island Components (sicom.co.nz) They do mail order.
I haven't dealt with PMB Electronics (www.pmb.co.nz) but he has some useful things ... have a look at the "Components" area.

I sometimes wondered why DSE became NS agents ... it probably came with DJR.
