688012 2008-07-12 22:42:00 You get the same treatment when you try to order parts from Dell - you can easily lose a week dealing with them. Greven (91)
688013 2008-07-12 23:00:00 Zheng - it's true, things can go well. But when they dont, then problems arise. Also, you can't contact the local manager because there is no local manager that I could find, despite the company being registered in NZ. annie (6010)
688014 2008-07-12 23:02:00 Can you. Why?

Because your experience was OK?
And I guess the rest of them were just making it all up.

With all big companies, it really is the luck of the draw. I've had nothing but brilliant experiences with them, which is why I recommend them to family and friends. Some people have good experiences calling Telecom's helpdesk, some people don't. Unfortunately it's a gamble you have to take - you choose to save a couple of hundred bucks by buying Dell, instead of a more reputable brand with a local presence.

Molenz: If you have difficulty understanding the english spoken by the "Service Representative", say so on their feedback form when it gets emailed to you (often within a week or so of your call).

688015 2008-07-12 23:05:00 Actually, I found that if you take it slowly, English is not a problem - the standard of helpdesk English was in fact very good, although pronunciation differences had to be worked around, which is fair enough. But having emailed Dell 5 or 6 times during my little saga each time to one of 4 specific people I dealt with, I didn't get a single reply, and the problem was never resolved. annie (6010)
688016 2008-07-12 23:29:00 Have you actually Paid for this laptop yet ??

If you haven't then you can always cancel the order and get another one from a better company.

If you have and its by credit card you may be able to cancel the order and get your money back, sometimes these company's dont put the transaction through until the goods are ready to be delivered.

If this is the case , contact Dell IN WRITING advising you are canceling the order and transaction - with their usual efficiency  who knows what you may get in the post.

688017 2008-07-13 00:47:00 You can also cancel your credit card payment through your credit card company if you paid that way.

because they follow up the problems on case by case bases, each case provided with a case number and customer service people will be allocate to incharge different cases..at then end of the case, manager will double check wheather the problem been sorted by emailing you...in addition, you will be ask to rate the customer service and giving feedback..
im not trying to against anybody in this post but i just dont think it is fair to say the company is no good base on few cases while 1000 others have no problem with them.
i mean they are big company where staffs allocated to different field, you can not expect it will be some kind of dairy shop where you can ask the owner about everything..
one thing that i agree with is sometimes it could be very difficult to contact their sales team....that is true.....i had spent quite a large amount of time try to get hold with them before .....but to be honest all we can do is send them feedback regarding to this problem....
maybe is a good idea try to contact other dept apart from sales becase i dont think they incharge delivery....

688021 2008-07-13 09:47:00 Thanks for the reply annie, I'll try that number.

I seriously recommend anyone who wants to buy from dell to reconsider, no matter how good the deal is.

I personally would never buy another dell laptop. The build quailty is shocking. After a year of low usage some keys on mine no longer worked and multimedia keys have also ceased working, due to low grade contacts being used. Persoanally I would cancel the order if I was you, they do allow you to change you mind in their polocies, and because they have chnaged the date they should let you. You can get better deals from retail stores these days. Asus and toshiba are quite a good brands, and better than dell.
