Also known as FUD. Why should Apple not charge developers to download and use the SDK, I am pretty sure MS does. So far with some 550 apps available in the iPhone Apps store I haven't seen too many people or developers complaining about having to use the SDK.

I have a feeling that you will find under their GAAP accounting practices (US law) that they have to charge a nominal amount for the SDK and also for certain addtional software updates pertaining to the iPhone.

The iPhone and applications from the store are a very effective money making packge, Apple ain't no charitable organisation (neither is MS)

If the iPhone didn't play DRMd tracks it would be **** out of luck when trying to play tracks from the iTunes music store which the music industry has demanded they should be "protected" against copying LMFAO!
Obvious repsonses from Metla aside but the n00b that wrote the article needs to get a clue.

most of the article is rubbish and FUD

1 . iPhone completely blocks free software .

wrong!
apple take 30% cut of price, and yes apple has to give you app the OK
you can make an app a make it as a free app, apple have no problem with this .
the only resion apple wants to "check" every app is that they want to try and avoid virus issues .

2 . iPhone endorses DRM .
kind of . . . .
apple will play non DRM songs
and its not like the microsoft zoon is any better is this regard .

3 . iPhone exposes your whereabouts and provides ways for others to track you without your knowledge .

every cellphone does this a bit .
the GPS infomation is NOT being updated 24/7, only when you push the GPS functions .

4 . iPhone won't play patent- and DRM-free formats like Ogg Vorbis and Theora .

who cares?, most MP3 players have this issue .

5 . iPhone is not the only option .

this is the only thing they got right . . .
if you don't like it then don't buy it . the nokia N95 is a nice phone, or the HTC touch .

Not quite right, the article stated better options on the horizon, which would mean iphone best option for now:rolleyes:

And probably for the forseeable future as well if the iPod history is anything to go by. ;)
