687874 2008-07-11 06:39:00 I am looking to buy a Dell XPS 420 with an intel quad core, 4GB of RAM and a 768mb graphics card

it is 32-bit OS

will this hinder performance in any way by being 32-bit or will anything that 32-bit does different to 64-bit affect the perfeormance

this will be used for day-to-day applications but will also be engaged in gaming and will be used frequently for both

any help would be appreciated.

687875 2008-07-11 06:44:00 Well 32 bit Os's can only see about 3.5GB of RAM but 64 bit can see and use it all, games on 64bit seem to be a problem there was a post on this earlier this week gary67 (56)
687876 2008-07-11 08:59:00 You need to make a list of all the applications and games that you are using currently and check individually if they can be used on a 64bit OS.

That way, you wont have any incompatibility problems or crashes if you do get a 64bit OS.

687877 2008-07-11 11:21:00 so it will be fine with a 32-bit?

would it be wise to get a 64-bit for the future or will it not matter much, will my 32-bit not be a hinderance in the near future.

687878 2008-07-11 11:28:00 A 32bit system will be fine. And the XPS can definitely handle being upgraded to a 64bit OS in the future.

So for normal gaming and day-to-day tasks, choose a 32bit OS

687880 2008-07-12 07:30:00 But for the love of god please don't buy Dell.

Go to www.ascent.co.nz and have them build a similar system for much cheaper than Dell.
