428692 2006-02-09 06:54:00 After a few periods of Chemistry, i've decided its not to my liking and i'd rather choose an alternative science.

Can anybody reccommend a science based on experience. (I'm in yr 12 - 6th form)?

Biology
· Ecology: a study of how organisms are adapted to live in their habitat and interact with other organisms and environmental influences· Cell Biology: a study of basic cell structure and key processes that take place in the cell

· Diversity in Plants and Animals: a study of the structure and function of plants and animals and important biological processes that affect them

· Genetic Variation and Evolution: the study of genetic changes within populations over time

Electronics
· introduction to circuit concepts and electronic measurements· basic electronics components and systems

· construction of printed circuits and electronic products

Physics
· Momentum and vectors· Forces and torques

· Motion revisited

· Energy

· Electric fields

· Electric circuits

· Magnetic fields

· Behaviour of light

· Behaviour of waves

· Photons, atoms and nuclei

General Science
· New Zealand’s geology

· Research science ideas

· Light

· Science investigation

· NZ plants and animals

· Fertilisers

· Stars

I'm biased towards Physics because its the best science :), I didn't find it too hard - probably because it was quite interesting. I don't see what is wrong with chemistry, but come to think about it, the stuff I liked was more in relation to atomic/quantum physics.

General science is pretty lame unless you don't want to carry onto latter years.

428694 2006-02-09 07:02:00 Crikey . A poll to decide your science course - that is certainly lateral thinking .

Its impossible for anyone else to know - you are the best judge of what interests you .

Personally I enjoyed Chemistry at school and suffered Physics but later in life I've found that a knowledge of physics has wide general knowledge applications . Biology has its own fascination .

Really, you have to try - have you given chemistry a fair go?

428695 2006-02-09 07:13:00 What do you plan to do/study when you finish school? This will have some bearing on what topic might be more appropriate.

But yeah, you shouldn't decide to change a class only after a couple of lessons. I hated Chemistry initially and even tried to do Stats to avoid the class I was so desperate to avoid. However, I had no choice and had to continue with Chemistry. Much to my surprise I topped the year in Chemistry. :p

428696 2006-02-09 07:32:00 Well i suppose i missed out the point that i'm required to do a science, yet science doesn't interest me that much. So yes im resorting to a poll on PressF1 to help me decide :P

It may seem slightly premature to quite Chemistry already, but i don't really have that long to decide before the timetables are more finalized, and after reading over the course outline, i've felt extremely put off.

Good point about Electronics being US's, and i tend to agree with you on general science being lame (mainly because it includes geology).

I spose it then comes down to Bio and Phy, or trying Chem.

Planning on doing Politcal Science and Law, or something along those lines.

NZ needs more scientists!!! not lawyers and politicians!

428699 2006-02-09 07:40:00 I done the YR 12 Physics course last year and I found it a little challenging, but it was good and very enjoyable, but you should decided what to do, not let others :) The_End_Of_Reality (334)

428701 2006-02-09 07:47:00 Physics - because you actually have to think. gibler (49)
