427582 2006-02-06 01:06:00 Hi,

I have recently purchased an home theatre system and I have been trying to wire it into my TV. I can wire in the DVD to the TV using Video RCA IN cable but the sound is not SURROUND quality. And for some reason the Centre and the L/R Surround speakers dont seem to work. But they seem to work when its in the radio mode. And also I am perplexed as to how the normal TV signal would output from the TV to the surround input because my TV doesn't have any Audio RCA Out (as far as I can tell) But it has all these other Yb/Pb/Cb outputs? unsure as to what they are? Am I doing anything wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

427584 2006-02-06 01:17:00 A TV usually only has RCA video / audio in/out and maybe SCART, or S-video.

If the TV doesnt have Audio out, u wont be able to hear the DVD's sound thru the TV. When u play a DVD.

Only thru the stereo. The HT must have settings / or a configuration screen to set up the channels / audio etc. Whats the make/model of the stereo?

If u get a picture with the video RCA plugs, dont worry about the Yb/Pb/Cb outputs.

427585 2006-02-06 01:47:00 The Yb/Pb/Cb are a type of video signal out-put from your tv (or may be input?) and have nothing to do with the sound .

From your post I am a bit unsure what exactly you are trying to achieve . From what I can make out, you have a surround sound system, that you want to use to listen to either sky or free to air TV through .

Both sky, and free to air TV do not put out a surround sound signal . i . e they only put out 1 or two channels of sound (2 for sky and ch3, 1 for free to air 1 and 2) as opposed to the 5 channels of sound required for basic surround sound .

This is the reason that only two of the channels (right and left) are working while you are watching TV . Soume surround sound systems wil duplicate the right and left hand channels and output them on the SR and SL speakers and combine the right and left hand channels and output them on the center speaker to give a surround sound 'feel' .

If you could post exactly what you have in terms of AV equiptment, the outputs/inputs on each of these, then I would be able to help you further .

427586 2006-02-06 02:00:00 TV 1,2,3,Alt TV, C4, and Juice TV are actually broadcast in Nicam Stereo. Speedy Gonzales (78)
427587 2006-02-06 02:38:00 Have you connected the dvd to the amp or the tv - it should connect to the amp. Thefore you should be able to get surround sound, or simulated surround sound using one of the available output modes from the amp. Even if your input is only 2 channel, most home theatre setups can simulate surround sound and you should be able to get output from the surround speakers in one of the audio modes.
If your TV doesn't have audio out, then you wont get any sound back into, and therefore, out of the receiver-amp. If you want TV audio, then your best bet is to input the tv signal from a video recorder or a Sky decoder and use the tv as a monitor.
The manual that came with your new system should have a connection diagram in it - have you followed this?

427588 2006-02-06 02:45:00 Is your stereo a home theatre 5.1 system as most stereos can turn 2 channel sound into 5.1 surround sound providing they have a built in dolby prologic or dts surround sound decoder on board. technophobia (8565)
427589 2006-02-06 02:57:00 Yes thats true but only frre to air tv where as sky is broadcast in a different sound they wont say what it is i have asked them many times and they refuse to answer that.I do know however that later on this year those viewers luck enough to have the new my sky installed sky will be transmitting in 5.1 surround sound once they switch over to their new satellite in a couple of months. technophobia (8565)
427590 2006-02-06 04:11:00 TV 1,2,3,Alt TV, C4, and Juice TV are actually broadcast in Nicam Stereo.

You need a high-end TV to utilise those signals though, not just any old standard TV. It appears that surround sound will only be available fron the DVD.
