688877 2008-07-14 10:52:00 Hi there,
I have recently been gifted a computer by a friend (who I won’t see again) and also a Windows XP Home SP1 CD. When I installed Windows from the CD and added SP2, the audio on the motherboard didn’t install.
The computer has Speaker, Mic and Line Out ports on the back and extended speaker and Mic ports on the front of the case but there is no audio signal anywhere. This was expected because there was no driver installed for the motherboard’s audio controller, but when I downloaded a driver from the motherboard’s website (www.ecs.com.tw) it still didn’t give me anything.
All other parts of the motherboard are working (COM, Printer, Mouse, Keyboard, USB, LAN, CPU etc) fine and their drivers were installed automatically by Windows. My graphics card is a separate PCI card which is working fine.
Apart from buying a PCI or USB sound card, is there any way I can get this working?

I don’t know what details people need but I got what I could from the “Windows Device Manager”:

688878 2008-07-14 11:02:00 Install VIA Service Pack (4 in 1) as well.

If you havent. I think these are the chipset / mobo drivers

Also if you have some kind of voicemodem, this may take over as the default audio device. Look under sounds and audio devices / audio tab

688881 2008-07-14 11:27:00 How did you install the audio drivers?? Did it have an exe file in the zipped file? Speedy Gonzales (78)
688882 2008-07-15 10:25:00 How did you install the audio drivers?? Did it have an exe file in the zipped file?

Have installed the 4 in 1 pack via a setup program. When i went to install the sound driver through the setup program in that, i was given the message VIA AC97 Chipset is not found on this system.
When i pointed windows to the folder it found a driver (it said was untested for XP) which installed but doesn't work.

Help?

688884 2008-07-15 22:04:00 [B]Hi there,
I have recently been gifted a computer by a friend (who I won’t see again)

I downloaded a driver from the motherboard’s website ( . ecs . com . tw/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail . aspx?detailid=333&DetailName=Driver&MenuID=7&LanID=8" target="_blank">www . ecs . com . tw) it still didn’t give me anything .

ECS . Some friend .

Are you sure you have the correct model of motherboard?

688885 2008-07-15 23:17:00 Don't even bother with ECS drivers, they're just the standard VIA ones but out of date. Always get latest VIA drivers at www.viaarena.com

Try these audio drivers: www.viaarena.com

If you already did try those, then re-check your board model and revision because those drivers should work

688886 2008-07-16 07:42:00 I have installed the drivers you provided links for and that didn't coax it into action.
Also checked the BIOS and nothing is mentioned in there about a sound card but I double checked everything in there just to make sure.
Also I will revise my study of my motherboard. I have no good idea of how to find out the model (last time I just googled the device ID and i was given that link) so can you give me some pointers on how to do this?

Am coming near the conclusion that I need to buy a separate PCI sound card or USB. Where can I get one cheap? I still will appreciate :help: (help) though!

Thanks
