688278 2008-07-12 12:02:00 Hi All
I did a search on the forum and couldn't find the answers I was after. I am going to purchase a Notebook and have around $1800 to spend.
I am keen to buy an Asus (as I can see from previous posts that they are a good quality brand)
I will be using it for work (Word processing, Corel Draw, Spreadsheets, Photos etc)personal use email and browsing, watching DVDs, a couple of games and to play Sims2 (yeah, yeah, I know  But I never had a dolls house as a kid :dogeye: )
If I buy a Core 2 Duo will that be enough to process the graphics demands of high spec graphics games? What type of graphic processor should I be looking at?
I had trouble when I bought my last PC with it being (on Paper) way over spec for Sims2 but when it came to game play I had major hassles until I upgraded my Video Card and I want to avoid any problems this time round.

Many thanks

Meg

Laptops are not designed for gaming .
They have built in graphics chips which are NOT upgradable . At all .
While there are "gaming laptops" with higher end graphics chips in them, you would not get one for $1800 .

ASUS G70S-7T004G Gaming $4,584

LCD 17 . 1" WXGA LCD
Core 2 Duo® T9500 2 . 6GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 1G DDRIII 8700M GT

Windows Vista Ultimate

688280 2008-07-12 23:08:00 Sheesh! At that rate you would almost better off getting a MacBook Pro for $3,999 for the 15" - It can run Windows on Bootcamp for gaming although Sims2 on Mac is fine. vitalstatistix (9182)
688281 2008-07-13 02:02:00 OK, So i know that most laptops arent made for gaming but would Sims2 run on this : www.ascent.co.nz

The Sims might run on it but you also said:

High spec graphics games require high spec GPUs.

688284 2008-07-13 09:01:00 Sorry I wasn't more clear.
I have heard that there is a Sims3 in the wings and that the graphics will be pretty high spec. I dont want to buy a new notebook only to find I cant play it. I have no idea what the specs will be at this stage but you can bet it will be graphics hungry!

Thanks for the advice,
Meg
