430592 2006-02-15 09:49:00 Hmmmm... I smell an evangelist, or was that the whiff of pimp? :) John H (8)
430593 2006-02-15 09:53:00 Nah! Slax and Ubuntu are my favourite flavours bob_doe_nz (92)
430594 2006-02-15 10:02:00 Definitely a pimp John, glad my deoderent masked the stench enough to lure you in, or perhaps you were looking for something specific, hmmmm! :D

So Bob, what did you come in for then eh, eh! You should know better, but you couldn't help yourself, could you . Go on, live it up, click on the link, it's only a tiddler and it won't bite, honest

Now where have those girls got to .
Murray P (44)
430595 2006-02-15 10:05:00 I already had used Mepis on my flappy. The cost to my memory was too much and the thing slowed to a crawl, not too mention half the stuff being installed I did not want.

Though (Person)Thingy-ma-bob may like it :p

430596 2006-02-15 10:07:00 I think I will stick with Win XP :) stu161204 (123)

After I have downloaded the ISO image how do I burn it to disc to ensure that's bootable when I want to install it on my Hard Drive?
Chemical Ali (118)
430598 2006-02-15 10:20:00 What burning software you using C.A. bearing in mind I'm a bit rusty on Nero, but use NTI on windows and KB3 on Linux. Essentially, you just want to follow the instruction for making a Data CD of ISO type, the boot files are already on the CD so, AFAIK, you don't want to be creating a bootable CD that has boot files added to it by the burning software (in some sodtware this is termed creating a bootable CD, funnily enough, but this can be confusing).

I'll do a quick check of what the Linux sites advise for the various version of burning software.

Bob, what sort of machine were you running it on? Something ain't right with your experience, while not as fast as Yoper or Gentoo, Mepis ain't no slouch. It's also a one CD install thses days, plenty of stuff there for most people but no great gobs of extraneous apps. New hardware detection (which Mepis is extremely good at, way better that Ubuntu and more stable),. Have alook at the change logs.
