realistic expectations, realistic price, $30 bucks for 200mb is not realistic, its insulting.I agree about the 200MB limit, thats a bit of a joke (though for most users thats all they'd need).

I thought you'd have a better understanding of this being in business yourself.

429723 2006-02-14 01:46:00 Am I reading it right? The $30 plan and the 512k upload plans are not able to be capped so if you go over they will bill you? If so, haha.

Does Universities rely on Telecom as well for the provider of BB?

And the rest of the plans are crap, complete and utter crap.

I am agreeing with Metla again here, the plans they are offering are insulting.

429725 2006-02-14 01:51:00 Well just depreciate your standards and join the real world. There are other mega high speed Internet options - you want em... pay for em. Simple.

Yes, everyone has different standards, if high speed broadband standard to you is 128K - 512K upload then all is good ~

Yep, that’s correct.

I think they may use a mix of Telecom/ Telstraclear & I don’t think they use BB, I think they more likely to have a bigger pipe like a T1 or something like that.

429728 2006-02-14 01:56:00 Just because you think it's too expensive doesn't mean it's unfairly priced.

I think a Lexus is too expensive but people happily pay for them.

The fact of the matter is that data (not broadband, not dialup, not cable) but any International data in New Zealand is FCKGWing expensive.

Read the thread and think about it. You want a 2Mb connection, you want to pay next to nothing for it, and you want to be able to max that pipe out at 2Mb any time you please.

So does everyone else.

The ISP has to provide that 2Mb pipe to the best of their ability, where it is costing them literally ~$1k per Mb for international transit.

It's just not realistic.

I don't think diamonds are worth $1000's, but people do and people pay for them. Live with it.

Telecom is making a LOT of money so I would of thought they would be able to afford to make the 3.5m / 512K plan cheaper as my understanding goes - cheaper plan = more people on that plan = more money to Telecom.

Ah .. , how many people are happily to pay the price of a Lexus but only get a Toyota? ;)

What I have an understanding on is Telecom being able to insist upon an unwarrented profit margin purely because they are arrogant sons of beaches who happen to be in charge, If it takes them cutting their profit down to a few cents per customer to get a realistic priced product on the market then so be it. Mass uptake won't happen untill this takes place.

Im not a Telecom stockholder, fine by me if they only make 50 billion next month rather then 55 billion, Rich is still rich, and getting screwed is still getting screwed.

That said, Im not after blazing speeds or uncapped data, Just something usable and that represents value for MY money. They havent brought anything better to the market, just fiddled and nudged what they already offer for no better value.

Smacktards.

It doesn't just affect them. ninja (1671)
