429672 2006-02-13 05:43:00 Downstream speeds have increased (though most people won't notice any difference) but you have to upgrade to a much more expensive plan to get a reasonable upstream speed. Does that answer you question Greven? maccrazy (6741)
429673 2006-02-13 06:19:00 Don't know that it matters much to me, already on the 'adventure' plan, however as soon as telecom anounced they were 'upgrading' the plans web pages started downloading really fast on my comp (including PF1 which could be a bit dodgy at times)... maybe they've already taken the brakes off a bit? Shortcircuit (1666)
429674 2006-02-13 06:25:00 Right lads,

Here's the discussion on Telecom from today Larry Williams show on NewstalkZB.
I've taken out the ads etc...link below. (coverage includes from just before 5 to about 5:45pm).

I actually emailed Larry before the show and he used my points to grill that Matt "Crock o' ****" Crocket 3 times.

429675 2006-02-13 06:32:00 I can't think of a better phrase other than "Telecom sucks nuts" and deserve to get a can of unbundling whoop ass unleashed on them.

There should be NO plans over 2MB that have less than a 512K up as 128K is NOT broadband and causes latency issues for gamers and unusable speeds for amature web developers etc. There new 3.5down/512K up plans are too expensive and the caps still suck!. They are STILL trying to stop VOIP for standard home users with crap upload speeds.

Who gives a flying frig about 3.5MB down connections if they issue crap caps, just means you will blow your cap faster and get throttled faster.

If anyone is satisfied with these new plans they are clueless, time to Unbundled!.

429676 2006-02-13 06:56:00 Ok, so can someone clear this up for me?

I'm currently on Jetstream starter, so 256kb down, 128kb up with a 10gb data cap.

On the new 'improved' plans, that will be introduced in april will my download speed change to 2mb and still 128kb upload with a 1gb cap??!?!?

Tough one, it looks like you can "free" downgrade to the new "GO" plan 2mb/128 with 1 gig cap, but this would seem harsh . 10 gig is a joke 1 gig is unbelievably crap . You may not be forced to change at least not for a while like the old Jetstart plans ran for a long time after being cancelled etc .

But the info at the moment is not clear in your situation, my advice is go Ihug 40 gig 2MB $69, the little extra per month is well worth it .

429678 2006-02-13 07:13:00 Jetstream starter prices are about my limit atm, and i'd very much rather stay on a 10gb cap, than go to the faster speed with a 1gb cap. As you say 1gb is ludicrous!

I hope they let me keep my current plan.

429680 2006-02-13 07:30:00 Good news for Xtra Broadband residential customers

Great news in fact! If you are already an Xtra Broadband customer you don't need to do anything to get these faster speeds. From early April you will automatically be upgraded to a faster plan - with either a drop or no change to your monthly plan charge.

We will be in touch shortly to let you know of any changes that affect you.

The new range of plans will offer you a much faster connection for surfing the web and doing all the things you love to do online.

Are they trying to make me angry?

429681 2006-02-13 07:39:00 Y'know so many comments of seen on this thread and others here and in other forums, just go to prove that Kiwis can be the most mule-headed country of people on the planet.

Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth! Does no-one even vaguely realise the positive step forward this is?

Almost all I've seen today is whinge, complain, moan, get angry - I mean good grief, people can be short-sighted! And damn childish too. And what's worse, is the abysmally low level of intelligence that people display when they can't even understand the new plans; let alone appreciate the benefits of them.

Grr I could scream!
