| 430601 | 2006-02-15 17:43:00 | Here we go, looky here sweet pea, all you will ever want in an OS Simply Mepis 3.4-3 final release that is.You are referring to the predominantly male population here as "sweet pea" But thanks for the heads-up, I will grab a copy later. Bit of a shame they didn't include KDE 3.5.1 in it though. It went official on 31st Jan. :) |

| 430603 | 2006-02-15 19:40:00 | Tazz... what an ad for Mepis you just gave. Easy as. Its the distro that i settled on because it just plain works, and well. Certainly a way to go for those who are curious, and far easier to install than the other side. I'm assuming that it runs live, and then installs if you like it and tell it, like Mepis 3.3. In all fairness, 3.3 does ask for things like a username and root username to set up, if your happy with the partitions and stuff like that. I'll try 3.4-3 on one of my sons machines after he gets back from school. Anyway, some of us use *nix because windows is too bubbly, restricted, and fiddly, Modern linux is only fiddly if you choose to tweak. I get shocks everytime i use a windows box. like trying to make sense of the plastic bubble Nero has turned into. Give me K3B anytime, as it's a simple, logical, and working interface with optional bells and whistles like a media player so i can check that i'm burning what i think i'm burning before i commit. Someone insulted it by calling it a nero clone.... Ha... it's far far better, and doesn't resemble a plastic bubble at all... Oops, i digressed again Jen.. apt-get update Or synaptic package manager, which i prefer as i get to see more of what's going on Anyway, if it had the latest greatest KDE, it probably wouldn't have room for some other joy. |

| 430608 | 2006-02-16 01:17:00 | Mepis bad :( www.imagef1.net.nz are you trying to run Mepis on? Are you aware that Mepis is designed for machines with grunt? It's definitely NOT a *nix to use on yer old 486 :p OK, it worked as a live disk, so it's not lack of grunt....... i must say, first time i've heard of it not installing. |
