Attn: David Cunliffe (new.lynn@cunliffe.org.nz)
Minister of Information Technology and Communications,
Labour Government.

Dear Sir,

Let me put this bluntly. If, after years of timidly sitting on its hands, the Labour government does not reverse the problem it caused in the first place by selling out to Telecom, and frees up broadband access and pricing in NZ, you can kiss my future support for Labour goodbye.

I am incensed by the years of dithering over unbundling, the exorbitant fees charged by Telecom in their continued milking the so-called NZ broadband market and their 'neither sh*t nor get off the pot' arrogance. Their 'broadband' is laughable. I want real broadband, and the ability to use new internet technologies such as Skype, at a competitive price - not this opportunistic, watered-down BS Telecom continues to peddle.

I'm serious, as I hope you are.

Yours faithfully,

etc

429331 2006-02-11 20:59:00 Nice. :D

He won't read it though and it'll get biffed straight in the bin.

Think you need to come across in a different manner.

Eg - stress how important this is for the NZ economy, say you run a home business and rely heavily on decent broadband, mention that it's too slow for streaming educational news content from overseas and how this is a hinderance to your child's education or your university assignments.
In other words, beg.
Politicians dont like being told what to do, but they do like having their arses licked.

Why don't you show us how it should be written, (write it and post here ), then send it to Cunliffe. I could also include all such letters/emails posted here on one of my websites so they remain 'out there'.

429333 2006-02-11 22:55:00 swearing multiple times in a letter to an MP is not a Good Thing. To take you seriously they've got to have some respect and calling a national service provider '****' (despite how you may feel) can be treated in an offensive way. Act professionally, after all, how would you feel if someone hassled a service related to you by calling it bull**** (and be honest about that), would you listen? DangerousDave (697)

I tell it like I see it. You want to do it differently and that's cool. Now put your money where your mouth is, let's see what you can come up with and post it here.

All this endless schlock about unbundling, deregulation etc is just that - a load of procrastinating BS.

429335 2006-02-11 23:20:00 Totally agree with DD above.

Your letter will only get taken seriously if you do your homework, and present the issues in a constructive manner.

You need to show an understanding of any problems that LLU could cause as well as the benefits. A one-sided slagging session will achieve zero, or worse will hurt the case for better services and more competition by reinforcing that the aggrieved customers simply do not understand.

If I thought it would actually get read then I might.
Better off rallying a petition via Telescum.co.nz

I refuse to sit on the fence anymore.

Inside information has it that the ministers do in fact read public comments, emails, letters. Where it concerns their political survival even more so.

Pen something, stick it here and it may provide inspiration for those who don't like my style or who don't know how to write a nice polite letter :)
