| 689602 | 2008-07-17 01:05:00 | I checked the other thread, doesn't seem like the same thing. Windows XP SP3 Starts up, works fine for random length of time, up to several hours then freezes - ie the screen stays as it was, mouse pointer still visible, but nothing happens. ctrl-alt-dlt doesn't work. Requires full reset, which doesn't always work, often I just get power on, fans on MB & graphics spinning, but no screen, Moniter on but just flashing as if dormant. ie sometimes the reset works & the machine gets back to normal, then re-freezes shortly after, other times not. Swapped out graphics card, PS. What did appear to work was removing then putting back ram stick. I did this several days ago & the machine seemed fine. Then the problem reappeared today. I don't know if that is doing anything, reseating it etc, or if it's just coincidence. The case is open & it's about 5 degrees in here so I doubt it's a heat issue. Any suggestions? |

| 689603 | 2008-07-17 01:27:00 | Down load memtest (www.snapfiles.com) - this is the new version that doesn't require to be burnt to a CD and booted from, the older version is here (http://www.memtest86.com/). Run it and see if the memory is faulty. Do you by any chance have A Windows Home Server as well, the reason for asking is several customers and myself have had problems with the exact same lockups if they have WHS on their LAN. The only way to fix it was to remove SP3. |
