689595 2008-07-16 23:35:00 Hi all.
Running Vista Home.
Why does spybot report the Windows active desktop as a problem?.
I searched and read about it and nowhere is there any hint that it is bad.
I noted that it apparently can be a resource hog.
Is it really a problem, do I need it, and can/how do I get rid of it if it is bad.
Hope this makes sense.

Cheers
Colin

689597 2008-07-17 00:36:00 Started spybod as admin and turned Tea timer off in tools. Restarted computer, Checked HJT and tea time not running. Ran Spybot again. Still coming up with windows Desktop as a problem?? Colpol (444)

689599 2008-07-17 09:54:00 Active Desktop can be hijacked by malware and before you know it your desktop wallpaper is serving you up spam. Jen (38)
689600 2008-07-17 21:15:00 Thanks Speedy
Have checked out the forum and may have found the solution.

Thanks Jen.
I now understand the significance.

689601 2008-07-18 05:44:00 Just to expand slightly on what Jen said, Spybot wasn't detecting the Windows Active Desktop as such, but malware that was or had the potential to hijack the active desktop, and display messages, images etc etc as a desktop background, a prefect example being this.

That's also a good example of how useless Nortons is. :D
