It's a free concert that appeals to families . It includes a gorgeous variety of perfomances, and has some amazing facts over the years, eg, the Southern Hemisphere's largest ever choral group (over 800 once), a tribute to Queen's song Bohemian Rhapsody, done COMPLETELY LIVE, which Queen themselves never managed to do, and you'd have to be sorry never to hear the amazing affect of the RNZ army's artillery cannons blasting off in sync with the percussion of some of the great classical music pieces .

It's a fantastic night out . Usually attended by 250 - 300 thousand people .

New Zealand's own band Golden Horse (http://www . goldenhorse . co . nz/) will be performing a few songs . Great stuff!

433179 2006-02-23 22:53:00 Thanks for the reminder Greg, I had forgotten about it. The Starlight Symphony is supposed to be the best of the free concerts running over summer. :) Jen (38)

www.johnhoward.com beauty of Auckland's programme is that it caters for all ages - and is altogether a fun night out. It's not a specialised event. The sound by orchestra standards is abysmal by the time it gets through the speakers. But it's the sense of it that appeals, and when the great songs play and the band is wound up and the fireworks and the guns go off - it's memorable!

(plus - the picnic with smoked salmon and cream cheese and salami and chilled vino.... mmmmm, and the romance aspects.... MMMMMM)
