| 433080 | 2006-02-22 23:07:00 | Hello All :) As everyone knows NZ has the worse upload speed... (So we wont go that way) But what I want to know is why on these new plans it cost $79.95 for 3.5M / 512K but it cost $59.95 for 3.5M /128kbs & the only change is the upload speed?( & you just pay more if you go over your cap) So why does it need to cost so much extra just for the increase in upload speed? Maybe this is a question that Ninja or some one else who work in an ISP maybe able to answer? |

The line we've always been fed about the rationale for upload restrictions is to discourage the hosting of servers on residential connections. Meh, I'm done with the broadband debate. I'd rather concentrate on things we can actually work with like our fibre and wireless clients. |

| 433084 | 2006-02-23 00:50:00 | The people who want the higher upload speed are generally the ones who are going to rape it. They may as well capitalise on it. Greg, it sounds like your creating a new genre - the Emo-Telecom kiddy. |

I count 7 threads about Telecom on the first page here alone. All the pointless bitching, whinging and general moaning isn't going to do anything. Telecom isn't going to change, build a bridge and get over it already. And as iHug has said LLU even if it happened now is that much harder than it was before and only getting steadily first. No provider could really afford to get their own gear in the exchanges anyway. |

| 433086 | 2006-02-23 02:27:00 | So why does it need to cost so much extra just for the increase in upload speed?I don't think it's so much the cost of changing the upload speed, it's the cost of revenue lost if people with faster upload speeds start using VOIP as their main telephone system and other factors like that. You can't really blame Telecom for protecting their business interests, it just doesn't benefit New Zealand. And yes, I agree with the others above, there are an excessive amount of threads about essentially the same things. |

| 433087 | 2006-02-23 02:58:00 | Telecom's DSL caps are there to protect their network, which has insufficient capacity to support real broadband (hence the 148:1 contention ratio on the new plans - basically they are increasing the speed you pay for, while the actual speed you'll get will go down!). The caps have nothing to do with Internet data or where it comes from.. |

I don't mean to pick on your English, stu, but I am curious at how you used the word "worse". Shouldn't it be "worst" since you are refering to the extreme and not comparing it? Cheers :) |
