431182 2006-02-16 19:21:00 Saw the decrease in value overnight 66.82 US Cents...Ouch.

I am planning on going to US in July. Will it be advisable to buy some US dollars now for travel? And whats the best way to get foreign cash ...Sorry i havent done this before. Do you just get US dollars from banks over the counter and what is travellers cheque i hear all the time

Thanks

431183 2006-02-16 20:10:00 Yes, you could buy now. No-one knows if the $NZ will drop more and soon but you would be wise to get some $US now.

Cash costs more on the exchange rate than travellers cheques. Just go to any bank and talk to them.

431184 2006-02-16 21:01:00 I hope it does drop further, and takes the housing market with it.

Maybe then I won't have to pay half a million bucks just for a standard 3-bedroom house in slum-land.

431186 2006-02-17 01:29:00 Take some cash ie US Dollars but buy mainly Travellers cheques, you will pay some commision but are safer AND can be replaced if lost or stolen.
Keep your credit card as a backup
