432823 2006-02-23 19:41:00 Well I'm despising vodafone at the moment as a prepay customer, raising the cost of a overseas txt from 20 to 30 cents, utter scum, especially since 90% of my txt are to the UK

432824 2006-02-23 20:24:00 Could have fooled me. I don't see any of them jumping up and down complaining they can't contribute - they just wat access to it on their terms.I have yet to find an ISP employee apart from Xtra that thought LLU (Local Loop Unbundeling) was a bad idea.

LLU would let ISP add their own infrustructure to the exchanges. This is what they want to do. ihug in particular has stated exactly what they would do it LLU was to happen. Complete with budgets, etc.

If ISPs didn't want to put their own equipement in the exchanges (therefore adding infrustructure) they could care less about LLU.

What they want is similar to what the power companies have at the moment. A lines company is paid for maintainece of the *line* to your home, not the power. After that you are free to switch between electricty suppliers.

That is a patch up that works with old network designs . Telecom has stated that it is moving to an IP network with fibre to the neighbourhood . There will only be a few "exchanges" . If the ISPs want to move out closer to the customer why don't they go all the way? In any case it will take more than the $20M mentioned by Ihug .

Power lines are different, the electricity doesn't care who puts it in or who uses it but haven't you noticed how much more it costs now .
