432909 2006-02-23 01:00:00 As a bit of an aside I’ve just heard of a shop in the USA with the following sign in the window .

“We would rather do business with a thousand Iraqi Terrorists than one Jew!”

432910 2006-02-23 01:43:00 Funny how a bit of blood, and a bit of a laugh at catholisism has everyone missing the point. And it was actually quite a good point.

Story line was:
Randy has serious drinking problems - He stuffed up, got arrested, etc.

He realised that he had to drink less.

He was forced to go to AA

AA told him he had a disease, and had no control over his drinking, and that he had to surrender responsibility to a "higher power". He believed that and consequently got worse.

When he heard about the bleeding statue miricle, he was able to stop drinking.

When the bleeding statue was dismissed as a non-miracle because the new pope declared that "chicks bleed out of their viginas all the time", Randys non drinking was over.

Randys son Kyle pointed out the lesson as taught by his karate teacher, that it has more to do with "self disaprin" than "higher power" or any of the other AA crap.

Randy realised he could say no to alcohol all by himself, and they walked into the sunset happy ever after.

Moral of story:
We are responsible for ourselves.
Cool moral ey?

432911 2006-02-23 01:53:00 W001 -I see your point but i wasnt saying i agreed or disagree what was shown, i didnt see it . But if by "watching it" you then say I may agree with it idea . . . . . . . is not really what i meant .

But no i may not actually agree with it, but if i dont myself see it, (the program) then i cannot really comment on its rights or wrongs .

and no I really dont think being cruel or whatever you are suggesting to any body (guilty of this before myself) whatever race, creed or religon is acceptable, then i no it is not .

I understand i dont know what the problem is, or why people think it is all about religon, catholics or whatever .
is it not really about what Jen rapped me over the other day - "Humanity"
and treated others with curtesy, respect

Most of this sort of thing is out of my league, and at the moment I see this is on par with that art that caused a riot last yr? a condom on a statue?

doesnt mean i beleive, or want to join the goodies or baddies . . . . . . . . . Just that this really is not a thing that concerns me majorly at the moment .
How can this impact on me ?

I can see some editing coming up eh W001? seems im way too slow . . . . . . . . . . .

So is this a discussion or an argument of rights wrongs or beleifs?

Really Bruce said what I meant . Just because we don't see something, doesn't mean we shouldn't speak up if we believe it is wrong . If we all ignored the nasty stuff that is said and done to others, then we'd be abandoning them .

For what it is worth, I support the right to screen the South Park episode . However I don't support disrespect towards the views of people who are against it .

BM: Thanks for providing some relief to this thread. Definitely needed it. :D
BB and Winston: Your respect and understanding for other people's beliefs in this day and age is much appreciated.
To the rest: This thread "Reactions to South Park?" only seems to have got emotional, bigoted, and mainly ignorant reactions from anti-this,that and the other brigade + sudden backtracking and "I didn't mean that" kind of posts following BB's post. :groan:
Funny, but I don't see any responses from any catholics.
Maybe they're just getting on with their lives?

432913 2006-02-23 02:52:00 There have been a couple of references to a Pink Floyd Thing after this programme. What have I missed? Did anyone record it?? PJ Poppa John (284)

432915 2006-02-23 03:31:00 Actually SP takes on quite a few moral issues..

Responsibility for oneself was what Bloody Mary was all about.
Taking charge of oneself, sorting ones own stuff out.

How about the Paris Hilton episode where some brainless rich blond moron called Paris Hilton opens a chain of shops called "stupid little whore" providing clothes for pre-pubescent girls to match roles like what current role models such as Paris Hilton seem to be providing for our daughters? I don't think i need to explain the point of that one.

Several times they've touched on blame issues, A big message in Southpark the movie was about parents needing to spend more time with their kids rather than blaming the media etc for them not living to expectation (and how spending time with your kids is better than avoiding the issue by waging war against Canada, for the good of the kids)

I give SP 10 points for looking at moral issues of the individual while giving every established system the mockery they all deserve.

432916 2006-02-23 03:32:00 I managed to see the last bit of it . The handling of the AA meeting and the kid hammering in personal responsibility was brilliant . The depiction of the papal visit was mildly amusing .

The Catholic Chrurch is just a huge business which for thousands of years has got away with exploiting the gullibility of their adherents .

The "Blessed Virgin Mary" wasn't a virgin . If she existed, she was a normal "young woman" in the original . . one of the accepted translations of that was "maiden" and then the bias towards "miracles" caused that to be fruther translated as "virgin" . At least the "pagan" versions of impregnation by gods showed a bit more imagination, and recognition of reality . A god who doesn't send angels, but changes himself into a bull has class . :D

Statues do "bleed" . Often . It's a miracle . (In other words, it's fraud) . People bleed ("stigmata") . Often . It's a miracle . (in other words, . . . ) . A bun has a picture of Jesus on it . It's a miracle . . . .

The Church has consistently and delibrately profited by such "miracles" .

Ok i admit i am lost now, i didnt see it, and am totally lost with all the descriptions and explanations on here of what supposedly happened .

I will retreat into my little hole and revert to saying nothing, doing nothing and then i will still be wrong or avoiding the issue as some one on here puts it .

I feel that whatever i have said or done in the past and today will come back and haunt me, because of my lack of understanding and knowledge about these problems, Better for me to sit back and say nout . Ill be in trouble no matter what as is the case with my life currently whether i have or not done something .

Unlike some posters in this thread (and other religions), the Catholics (and Christinas in general) are showing tolerance and restraint.
