2008-07-20 04:35:00 | Had to do the following to get utorrent to work correctly. 1. Open uTorrent, select Options/Preferances/Connection, where it says Randomize port Each time uTorrent Starts, make sure thats UNTICKED. 2. Above that wording is the Port Number Used, I have found some work better than others, but hit the random port Button. Note down the Port number. 3. In your LAN settings, make sure you have a static IP address. 4. Go to your router, open the port settings, mines under forwarding / vertual Servers - add in the port Number in uTorrent, then add in your static IP in the IP address. uTorrent then worked Ok.

2008-07-20 08:17:00 | Thanks for the advice guys. Wratterus : No, I could not even get anything to load previously, so I had no torrents previously. Wanuitech : How sure are you it works - last time I did it my modem/router crapped out? I will slowly try the advice, thanks guys, but I'm sh*t scared of another modem/router problem. SWMBO's temper is famous, this time she did not really care about the blood spattering freely around the house (as I run). As it is I can barely see the screen through my closed, black eyes - I have to tilt my head at 73.2 degrees to see anything. LOL sarel

LOL sarel On my router If I didn't set it up like I posted I couldn't get connected at all. I use uTorrent mainly for things like downloading torrents from MS, the Odd latest ubuntu, to have a play with, and a couple of over larger programs that I have come across from various "fix it" sites. Eg: the recovery CD for Vista, the suppliers started using torrents to supply as the main site got swamped. Not interested in "other" torrents - to risky with all the bugs about. Depending on what router you have will depend on the settings and what may require altering /setting. Edited: to check if its working you can try This here (neosmart.net) - its the Vista Recovery Console for people who don't have a Vista CD. Requires a torrent program like uTorrent. Just as another check - download this Download Manager (www.freedownloadmanager.org/) - it can handle some torrents as well.Example Here (http:) |

2008-07-20 12:20:00 | Am I missing something here? wasn't the problem that you couldn't get any search results? uTorrent doesn't have a search function, it links to torrent search websites that should work just fine no matter wether utorrent is installed or configured right. Perhaps it's a browser or firewall problem or something. Once you have a torrent to try and download then all the advice offered here would probably be useful. My apologies if I've misunderstood

2008-07-21 00:29:00 | Do you get a green tick at the bottom saying the connections are ok? There is a tester in uTorrent that lets you check if you have the ports forwarded correctly. | utopian201 (6245) | |
2008-07-21 02:32:00 | The tester in uTorrent did not do anything. No test, no result. A funny thing though - when the router/modem cr*pped out on me, I could not reset the router via the small reset button - so when I tried to portforward certain ports I must have told it to shut shop. sarel
