It won't be the end of the world if it is, as the course is only about four months so having to use the PC in the study won't kill me, it's just it is nice to be able to sit by the fire - or on the deck in the sun - while I study! |

I don't imagine you will need to use InDesign much when you get an editors job - assuming you don't already have one, but it is very handy to know your way around it especially if you are needing to make any editorial changes and there are no Mac operators free to do it for you. InDesing is very nice to use once you get to know the shortcuts. :) |

| 689440 | 2008-07-17 23:44:00 | I'm self-employed and enrolled for the course to upgrade my skills. The editorial module has already led to a huge increase in the amount of editing work I am doing, but the two modules I am doing now are to complete the course. I will no doubt pick up some usable skills along the way, but I enjoy the nitty gritty of editing rather than the design and layout side of things. I had a look at the InDesign manual I was sent by Whitireia the other day and it looks pretty interesting, albeit quite complicated! Apparently they have experts on hand to help us, so at least I won't be alone! |

There is a lot to learn regarding fontography aka typesetting, style sheets, paragraphs, drop caps, tab sets but once you have got a handle on it it is pretty straight forward. InDesign is more regimented than Photoshop. InDesign tutorials here desktoppub.about.com Photohop here www.tutorialized.com |

| 689442 | 2008-07-18 02:04:00 | There's a very very good set of training videos made by a company called "Total Training". I imported a set from the US a number of years ago for Indesign CS2, and found it excellent at teaching everything you needed to know to get off the ground (though it is quite expensive). | somebody (208) | ||
| 689443 | 2008-07-19 04:18:00 | Whitireia supplied a really good manual and it also includes a DVD with three hours of training videos on it - and the software itself came with a training DVD too. The book is Adobe InDesign CS3 one-on-one by Deke McClelland. It looks pretty comprehensive and he also does them for Photoshop so I'd be keen to get hold of one of them too as I certainly haven't explored its potential properly. I'm still waiting for someone to tell me whether registering InDesign online and putting in the serial number will create problems if I want to now load it onto the laptop. |
