432096 2006-02-20 00:04:00 Upgrade the kitchen? Why? Alter the decor yes. Rebuild it, no. We don't have any money. And after reading Metlas depressing posts not likely to either. pctek (84)
432097 2006-02-20 00:12:00 Could be worse, Out on the trail ride yesterday my uncle hit a tree stump while holding her flat stick, broke both hands,(thumbs, knuckles) launched off the bike and snapped his coller bone.

Bad luck for a man in his 60's.......

Does that cheer anyone up?

Muhahahahahaha.

432100 2006-02-20 03:34:00 Jeez! :dogeye: Does the Metla family have a curse?

Pctek - the house looks nice, but I reckon best feature is the back yard. Very cool.

432101 2006-02-22 02:27:00 Incidentally, you will also learn to roll your rrrr's over time (Saturday becomes Saturrrrday etc) - tis a time honoured Southland thing (I still haven't lost it on some words and it was nearly 20 years ago I left Southland)

Actually its more of a Gorrrre thing. My wife and her family are from Invercargill and they don't roll their r's however our friends from Gorrre, they do big time :D

432102 2006-02-22 04:04:00 I think it depends how long you've been down south. I've heard it from North Otago down.
My friend moved to Oamaru and her son was young enough at the time to have now acquired it.
He gets a bit annoyed when I make him say it again and agin....but its so cute. :D

432103 2006-02-22 07:00:00 Yes, it's very pronounced in parts of North Otago as well as in Southland.
Comes originally from the burr of the earliest settlers, who were Scots - and has just carried on over generations.
It's fun being able to recognise those southern sounds when I'm in "foreign parts" across the Strait, though I haven't got them myself - just the words.

"What a great wee crib..."
