431303 2006-02-21 00:31:00 Got any presentable and plausable ladies wgo'd be willing to wear a shortish skirt and a ever so slightly provocative top? It works. A slightly different strategy is to take the attractive offsider along as a distraction. All calls routed through a professional sounding and efficient female voice, also adds business cred.

There you go Beetle - whip out the mini-skirt and that halter top and go cold-calling for Metla. I know he'd appreciate it. ;)

431304 2006-02-21 00:42:00 I'm in a small business . We get loads of junk mail every day which we barely even glance at .

However mail which has a real signature and is personally addressed gets read .

If the sender turns up later or phones, there is a chance we will remember them . Particularly if they are local .

Most businesses which have computers have some IT support . But that doesn't mean they are happy with it . For example, we started with a guy who was brilliant . However he'd take 3 weeks to do a job - and then forget to send a bill . So we have gone elsewhere .

431306 2006-02-21 03:24:00 Dude, Metlas business is being restructured..
Metla the person is not actually dead, yet.
Is that so?

431307 2006-02-21 03:30:00 Is that so?I'm using the word "restructured" in the loosest possible way, and yes, i'm fairly sure the Metla is still alive, either that or someone taken over his username :p . Read his posts on this thread, all is not lost yet, apparently. personthingy (1670)

I read every word Met says,so don't need to be reminded.
As this is Mets thread,I will say no more.

431309 2006-02-21 04:27:00 This may be a really dumb suggestion, but... Are the local schools, poly, and private training establishments already sorted for tech support, or is there a market there? There used to be a guy down here who specialised in supporting schools etc and he got a good name etc etc. With any luck they could be the regular bread and butter, with the other work the jam.

Of course, you would need bags of patience... And of course quite a lot of educational establishments use Macs...

Ahh! A man of much sense

Oh dear dear Murray . . . . if you didn't spend so much time shagging around with a DIY operating system, maybe you'd make more cold calls!!

Funnily enough, essentially I'm in negative marketing mode these days, the only marketing I do is via the Yellow pages, I don't even give out cards . With that, I still turn away more business than I accept .

PS .

Cici, I too have noticed the change in young Mets . Quite the wordsmith, although he always showed potential, hid behind a façade . And yes he ain't quite passed on yet so, Mets, chin up pal, all the best for the future .

431311 2006-02-21 19:05:00 Schools is a good idea, unfortunatly I imagine they are hard up for cash to pay for a tech. netchicken (4843)
431312 2006-02-22 03:17:00 In my case, since the volume of unsolicited mail I receive is increasing at a faster rate than spam in my email inbox, the unsolicited mail received is usually returned to sender in their own FreePost envelope. If they do not provide a FreePost envelope, then the envelope in which it came is rebundled with the contents and marked 'returned to sender' and reposted. Cptn Hotshot (3904)
