689281 2008-07-16 00:15:00 Hi, i'm a user with a acer laptop, 1gb ram, 1.73Ghz pentium processor, running microsoft xp sp2, and microsoft outlook 2003, and CA antivirus (using the xp sp2 firewall). Recently i have upgraded from paradise dial-up to telecom broadband, directed through the dlink wireless router dsl-g604t(that's the one telecom sells). Since doing so, i have been unable to send emails from either the old paradise email account or the new telecom email account (it receives emails fine) on broadband. When i use the old dial-up internet account i can send and receive emails from the paradise and xtra email account. Anyone got a solution? thanks chrisbs (13973)

You need to check the SMTP server - that's the outgoing mail server.

In Outlook 2003, you need to go to Tools and Account Settings, and select View or Change Existing Accounts.

Double slick on the account (or accounts) and look at the outgoing mail server area.

It should be smtp.xtra.co.nz with no SSL or authentication. Click on the more settings button to check those last two settings.

On the Outgoing Server tab, nothing should be ticked. Make sure "My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication is not ticked.

Go the the advanced tab, and look at the outgoing server area. It should be port 25, no encryption.

Try again, post with the results.

689283 2008-07-16 00:48:00 I did as you said and this is what happened.
I tested the account setting using the inbuilt tester. Outlook sent a test message, which was received. Then i tried to send a test message to a webmail account. The email i sent stayed in the outbox and would not send, no matter how many times i clicked send/receive. I then tried to send an email to the xtra account. This email sent, and was recieved over the broadband connection, but the email to the webmail account stayed in the outbox. Any suggestions?

689284 2008-07-16 00:59:00 A webmail account such as a Gmail address?

Is this the Xtra or Paradise email account we're talking about here? Lets ignore the paradise connection, set the Xtra connection as default for now. We'll get them sorted one at a time, otherwise I'm gonna get confused. :D

689285 2008-07-16 01:09:00 I was sending a test email from the xtra email account to a gmail account, over the broadband connection. This didn't work. Previously i have sent emails from the xtra email account to the gmail account over the old dialup connection, and this has worked. chrisbs (13973)
689286 2008-07-16 01:18:00 Cool, we're on the same page now.

Delete the message in your Outbox and try it again.

Make sure you include some text in the message subject and the body of the message itself.

You've set the Xtra email account as default?

Also, in the 'more settings' area of the Xtra email account properties, check the connection tab, and make sure a dial up account isn't selected as the one to use to connect.
