| 690599 | 2008-07-20 20:00:00 | I often download 800+ gig files. I have been told (by someone who knows about as much as I do), that I should use bit torrent because it downloads much faster. Does it? I have just downloaded 680 gigs in 40 minutes. I am quite happy with that. If I use torrent how long would it take? Most of my downloads are from a South African based fast server, via Aust.During the day downloading runs at not better than dial up speed. At 5am our time it d/l's at over 300 KBPs. BTW they are honest d/ls. |

Torrents are just file sharing methods where a heap of people all with the same file each send you a bit each. I would have my doubts torrents are the fastest method in some situations. Depending on what you are getting a torrent might not even be available as an option. eg Downloading a Microsoft Service Pack, faster via web and unlikely available on a torrent, legally anyway. |
