690523 2008-07-20 09:46:00 Is it possible to assign a fixed driver letter to a removable HDD? This HDD is mainly used for backing up in 2 machines, one XP Pro and the other Vista Ultimate.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure manually setting them helps this along however I've found after a while it becomes undone. Give it try though as YRMV.

Right-click (My) Computer and select Manage (www.imagef1.net.nz). From the left pane of Computer Management select Disk Management near the bottom (www.imagef1.net.nz). Wait a few seconds then select the volume you would like to assign a drive letter to and choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths...". The rest is pretty straight forward, just remember to free up a drive letter you would like to use if it's already in use.

690525 2008-07-20 10:52:00 I can manually assign a drive letter but when I plug it to another machine, the drive letter changes automatically.

Is it possible to fix a drive letter, say, "Y" and to which ever machine I connect it, the drive letter will be "Y".
