690344 2008-07-20 01:41:00 I have my computer in the dining room, with its own jack for the internet. If I was, to say, put another jack in my room and buy another modem, all for my room, nothing connected to the other computer, would it work?

I mean having the dining room online, plus playing Xbox Live at the same, two separate phonejacks, two separate modems?

I assume one would cut the other one off...

690345 2008-07-20 01:51:00 It probably would, (you would have to disconnect the main one) but I wouldn't bother.

Just get an ethernet cable and connect it to the main one (if its got ports)

690346 2008-07-20 01:55:00 You're saying that it probably would work, both being online at the same time?

The only reason I am resorting to this method is because my silly parents won't let me run an ethernet cable from the dining room. My house is pretty weird, nothing is positioned right. This computer is in the dining room, in the corner, right away from everything, and my room is probably 10+ metres of ethernet cable away.

690347 2008-07-20 01:57:00 Or set up a wireless network if you don't want to run a cable between the two. Jen (38)
690348 2008-07-20 02:02:00 No I dont think both will get online at the same time, with another jack

But yup other than that, you'll have to get a wireless adapter (thats if the modem is a wireless router as well)

Unless the Xbox has onboard wireless. In which case, all you'll have to do is configure it (thats if you've got a wireless modem/router)

690349 2008-07-20 02:07:00 Is there a wifi card that fits straight into an ethernet port? Instead of PCI ones? I will use that option if such a device exists.. Wardog (6821)
690350 2008-07-20 02:10:00 No, there's no such thing, I think

Its either wireless. Or put the Xbox beside the main PC and connect it with ethernet

Not much else you can do

690352 2008-07-20 03:23:00 No you cannot have two separate modems hooked up at the same time :)

There is a Xbox wireless adapter available from Microsoft but its over $100 unfortunately. Your modem would need to support wireless connections as well.

Maybe something you could do is run Ethernet through the phone line in the house. Might end up costing more though, dunno haven't looked at prices for a while.
