690278 2008-07-19 10:23:00 I am using Win XP - sp3 in Office 2000 with Outlook (9.0.0. 2416). In a desktop ex NFC. 2.8 Mhz, 80 GB, 512 MB ram.
This problem started with Outlook Express and I changed to Outlook recently to see if that would fix the problem, but it is the just the same.
Both OE. and Outlook usually open Ok when PC is first turned on and is the first program opened. However Outlook almost never opens after other programs have been accessed and comes up with "programe not responding" and getting out of this produces a message from MS "Consider upgrading to latest version of Office" ECT.
I have had the local PC repair shop look at it twice and the second time they formated the HDD and reloaded XP etc. Plus a new anti virus, firewall etc. Although a little better it is still freezing 9 out of 10 times.
I would be very gratefull if someone can give me some ideas of were to look for the cause of this problem.

Have you tried disabling it then trying to open outlook ?

Just wondering as if Outlook PST file gets too large it can cause problems

Go through the list of things at this link and see if any help.

Thanks Wainuitech, The antivius is CA and is just an update of what I had previously. Also the problem was there several weeks before the A V was updated, so I presumed this was unlikely to be part of the problem. And no, I havn't tried disabling it but will if you think it may help.
Thanks for your attention and ideas.
Keith.

Hi Safari, Thanks for your imput. Yes the repair shop did reinstall my files after reloading windows. However my files are just a modest amount of home emails so may not cause a problem, but will try it anyway.

Thanks for the link. This looks like a great souce of info and potential fixes for both my present problem and future reference too. It will also answer a further question I have been trying to get info on - how to save email files for perpituity. I will try it on the problem over the next few days - just a little too busy with a paint brush at present!

Thanks, Keith.
