690220 2008-07-19 05:51:00 A friend of mine is having 'puter problems. And I have just made them worse I think.

His computer suddenly stopped showing anything on the screen. A fan was going though. I thought PSU, and took one out of a computer that worked.

No go. Same problem.

So then I put the PSU back in the 2nd computer and now that won't go either.

I checked the monitor with a 3rd 'puter and it works fine.

What should I check/replace next?

690221 2008-07-19 06:05:00 Did you connect the ATX 12v connector from the PSU to the mobo??

If its got one / if the mobo needs it, depending on the brand/model of the mobo

690222 2008-07-19 06:07:00 Yup, and double checked that one too joemac (9739)
690223 2008-07-19 06:10:00 So when you say a fan was going, did it shut down while he was using it?

Does it come on at all? Then shut down?

Try another power point?

690224 2008-07-19 06:11:00 I got one here that is a bit of a mystery like that. I have tried changing everything one by one and it is still the same.

PSU, Graphic Card, Memory, Motherboard, CPU, Monitor.
Each work in another computer but all in the same computer nothing:-)

690225 2008-07-19 06:13:00 Plug it in, turn it on, you get a beep, fan on CPU and graphics card start. Lights on a USB card and HDD and Power lights on the front are going joemac (9739)
690226 2008-07-19 06:15:00 If theres only one beep it sounds like its OK, but something isnt in properly Speedy Gonzales (78)
690227 2008-07-19 06:18:00 ok, it looks like it has to have the graphics card in it too and I don't have a spare joemac (9739)
