689973 2008-07-18 06:44:00 I have a Maxtop Basics Desktop backup disc and have problems with it loading - it will autoplay on one laptop, but not on the other = Toshiba Satellite A20. What do I need to change to get it to autoplay to show the files and to backup?? rexkeys (8247)
689974 2008-07-18 06:56:00 Have a look at this Microsft article: support.microsoft.com Blam (54)
689975 2008-07-18 07:05:00 I may have used the wrong term - autoplay??

If I "msconfig" the universal plug and play is running.
Is there anything else I should configure ???

CD's play no problem.

689976 2008-07-18 07:25:00 I recall downloading a auto fix file which helped auto play to work. Something like this (www.microsoft.com)... kahawai chaser (3545)
689977 2008-07-18 07:45:00 Thanks for the help

.........but the autoplay for the CD is OK.
When I connect the Maxtor Basics Desktop storage device it doesn't show, nor does it appear on "My Computer" as a separate drive

689978 2008-07-18 07:51:00 Did you install a service pack recently?? If you have XP??

If you did, go to device manager and delete the entries under USB controllers and reboot

I take it, this backup disk is USB?

689979 2008-07-18 08:04:00 Have installed SP3 a couple of days ago to try to solve it.

Yes, it is USB and works fine on the other laptop.

689980 2008-07-18 08:37:00 THANKS folks

Did as Speedy Gonzales suggested - tghe Maxtor now shows = wonderful - as I wanted to use it for backing up my wife's files on this computer. I use a Seagate for system backups on my own.

Thanks again
