This week the Minnesota Republican Party is distributing a new CD about a proposed state marriage amendment. Along with flashy graphics, the CD asks people their views on controversial issues such as abortion, gun control, illegal immigration, and so on.

The problem – the CD sends your answers back to headquarters, filed by name, address, and political views. No mention of that in the terms of use. No privacy policy at all. The story concludes: “So if you run the CD in your personal computer, by the end of it, the Minnesota GOP will not only know what you think on particular issues, but also who you are.”

434748 2006-03-01 04:14:00 So what? If you fill out forms with answers to questions and then include your name and contact details, don't you expect that its actually going to go to somebody? Or are you just filling in the forms for fun? It can't find name and contact details otherwise.

434750 2006-03-01 04:38:00 it should be fairly obvious that they are collecting that information, but it is strange that they didn't include a big spiel about their privacy policy & you will remain anonymous (even though they could find out who you are if they really wanted, but why would they?) 434751 2006-03-02 04:00:00 Since I don't live in Minnesota, I don't think my privacy is threatened by that particular corrupt political organisation. (Except that this posting is being monitored by the Echelon system, so they might get to see it).

Our being paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't trying to get us.

Not to the average punter if they're not up front about collecting it.
