433813 2006-02-25 23:00:00 There used to be a number you could dial to ring other phones in your house. Does this number still exist and does anyone know what it is?

Cheers.

433814 2006-02-25 23:03:00 137 i think, it dosn't rig the other phones the exchange rings you back after you hang up. handy for testing.

if you want to ring the other phones while you are on the phone you need a pabx system.

433815 2006-02-25 23:08:00 Out of interest is it possible for a person to press a hotkey or designate a speed dial on the mobile phone and this will can him/her back? Like on some tv shows. Nomad (952)
433816 2006-02-25 23:51:00 136 also works IIRC but instead of ringing normally just causes a long drawn out ring that carries on.

Of course you could always just dial your own # on a cellphone.

433818 2006-02-27 00:01:00 ...at first glimpse I thought this was gonna be a social question...getting engaged to onesself is a new facet that I don't think the poloticos have even thougth of yet...but given time and a few ..er...persons who want to ring and marry themselves...it might be a timely cause to start nowadays. 433819 2006-02-27 00:22:00 I thought it was someone trying to remember the kids' trick, where you mystify or downright annoy a friend/parent by having them answer a phone with nobody at the other end of the line.

I'd forgotten all about that nonsense.

With help from this thread, I've reverted to a juvenile delinquent long enough to puzzle a friend - briefly only - until I confessed.

Now that honour is satisfied re memory, I'll go back to being a grown-up.

433820 2006-02-27 01:47:00 And to find out your number, dial 1957. I think 1958 or 1956 also gives the area code. Peter H (220)
433821 2006-02-27 02:35:00 A farmer might lend you the proper tool to ring yourself. It's called an "Elastrator". :D Graham L (2)
433822 2006-02-27 03:37:00 I have one of those, Graham.
Available on loan for the packaging & posting cost, but I'll only lend the rusty old one.

P.S. Not commonly called anything as fancy as that when in use on the farm.
