Boag uses rescue chopper to fetch passport
25 February 2006
Former National Party president Michelle Boag used Auckland's rescue helicopter to fetch her passport in order to catch a flight to Australia.
Ms Boag, who is chairman of the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Foundation, made the call about 5.30am to fetch her passport from Waiheke Island while she was on the way to Auckland Airport, the New Zealand Herald reported today.
The helicopter, staffed by three people as is mandatory, went from its city base to Waiheke, picked up the passport and then out to the helipad at Auckland International Airport in Manukau.

433666 2006-02-25 03:44:00 Stupid Idiot, she thinks shes above everyone else...
she apparently already paid the cost of what it was, which was $4000approx, but come on? she shouldnt have been allowed to do that...
if we're not...why is she?
who cares if shes the chairman of their foundation....what would she have done if she found that on the way to the island something came up but couldnt be done due to how far out the helecoptor was?

433667 2006-02-25 06:54:00 Well..........they did say if they had an emergency call they would have just gone. And she paid so...does it matter? pctek (84)
433668 2006-02-25 07:11:00 Does pollies using an emergency system as a personal go-for matter?

hell yes, In an emergency every minute counts, and if that rig had to go back for fuel and and then attend to its real purpose and your kid died.....

Anyhow, imagine if you rung an ambulance and John Banks had sent it down to pick up some Fish and Chips.

Personally I think the fat cat needs to be jailed, and the crew given a dressing down, Though they would have tyo be champions to dop their job in the first place so nothing overboard,

433669 2006-02-25 07:15:00 come one, it wouldnt have cost them that much to do the trip, think of it as creative fundraising. she paid for it as well. god some people are so critical. and they have 2 or 3 choppers there, which go out very rarely. Tux (606)
433670 2006-02-25 17:33:00 Perhaps no one told the stupid woman that there are several helicopter companies that do charter flights. And there are numerous flights to OZ every day.
Seems to me she is just saying, "I am important. I am ritch. I will do what I like. If I have to get people out of bed in the middle of the night to serve me then they had better jump to my command"

But then again, the Prime Minister can use a few officers to break the law [they are supposed to be upholding] to race her to the rugby; so ..... go figure

Guess it is one law for the rich and famous, and one for the rest of us

433672 2006-02-26 00:01:00 Way to quote the story and omit the facts Scouse.

Anyway:

The rescue choppers are run more like a business than a service - but they have to be. They are scarcely funded by what ACC work they do so a lot of it has to come from sponsorship, donations and private work.

On more than one occasion I've been involved in incidents where we've called for the rescue chopper to assist and it's been unavailable due to it being out on private work blowing water off grapes or kiwifruit etc - sure if we'd demanded it they would've come but by the time they'd travelled and refueled it was quicker to go by road.

433673 2006-02-26 00:41:00 Hi ninja. I was not being critical - as I said, the lady has balls. I wonder how many folk would think to make a pre-dawn call to the rescue service in those circumstances to borrow/rent/hire a multi-million dollar three-man unit and how the conversation would go..... "Hi there guys, its Michelle here.... a small job .... $4,000 for the pick up and delivery - no problems...." Reads like a TV script. Unlike the PM and her road race, this lady paid her way. 433674 2006-02-26 00:47:00 I wonder whether it would be considered a "donation" and therefore tax deductible? FoxyMX (5)
