The New Zealand Census is going online this year, and Statistics New Zealand is expecting a lot of people to fill in their forms this way.

The agency, which will deploy a team of 6500 officials in early March to deliver and collect Census forms to 4.2 million people, expects up to 20 per cent of the population will forgo paper forms for their electronic equivalent.

About 600,000 people from 250,000 households are expected to complete the online process.........Read the Rest Here (www.nzherald.co.nz)

Lets Hope there server/ servers (I Hope they have more then one) can cope with all the users doing the Census online.

433259 2006-02-23 23:02:00 Yes, since it's all going to happen on the one day .

Freind of mine is working for it . She says we get our papers and login using the PIN number ('Pi' number for those who fret) and fill it out online . This means the census person who delivered the papers doesn't have to come back to collect them . Great saving .

She says she has already struck a bit of resistance . Some semi-feral types around here think it's Big Brother going to grind them into the ground even further .

But most people have been good and she has had to turn down the offers of tea coffee or more as she 'd never get the work done . :)

433260 2006-02-23 23:10:00 Yes I'm doing it online. The only drawback is that you have to do it all at once or leave that page open until you finish. If you close that page before you finish you can't get back in. If that happens you have to do it on the form which they also give you. Also if the system becomes overloaded or you get a power failure etc.

433261 2006-02-23 23:18:00 Yes Trev, that occourred to me. Imagine you're 90% of the way through, doing fine, and there's a godknowswhat power blip or a contractor digs up the phone line again. Geez, that'd have me cussing and oathing.

Hey, should have prize for the first ten in the area to get the stuff in. RAM sticks, DVD writer, new CPU.

433264 2006-02-23 23:52:00 How I wish the online option would be more popular. I have delivered to about 150 households up to now and only 5 have chosen the online option. Already two of those have completed and Census Central txt me to confirm. It means of course that I don't have to return to collect their forms. Dally (6292)
433265 2006-02-24 00:08:00 Hi Dally. Re yr comment about some people already having completed. I thought that the bloke who delivered ours said that they had to be done on the night ???? Scouse (83)
433266 2006-02-24 00:17:00 I wonder if this will turn out something similar like what hapened in the U.S a while back.

I also wonder if I can have Jedi as a religion.

433267 2006-02-24 00:21:00 Our instructions for the online options were that they could complete any time after 20 Feb as long as it would be an accurate reflection of their dwelling at 7 March. Census Central must be comfortable with this as they have txt me to write of as confirmed the two completed ones in my area. Dally (6292)
