433498 2006-02-26 05:29:00 Gee, I don't see what's so hard about it. Here is how you answer it: Look at what country the ship or aeroplane your ancestors came from is and tick that box. :p I don't see what the obsession with calling yourself a New Zealander is for the purposes of the census... maccrazy (6741)
433499 2006-02-26 05:31:00 So if you are a white Kiwi tick 'other'. Does it ask you to specify? mark c (247)
433500 2006-02-26 08:23:00 I just wish I could work out why it matters??? B.M. (505)

Because everyone wants more choice. Perhaps we can get Microsoft & Linux added as religions this time.

433502 2006-02-26 09:44:00 With regards to the title. Neither, I am a Chinese-Malaysian currently residing at NZ. Shouldn't all of us get paid for completing the census since some of the questions are mind-boggling and require a few minutes of our life time to figure them out? XD

Cheers :)

It's not a big deal and it's not hard but it's not logical. Based on your logic, no matter which country is conducting a survey the people who were born and bred there cannot choose their country of origin? So I can be Spanish, Italian, Portugese, Russian, Samoan, Cook Islander, Japanese, Chinese, Indian etc etc etc but because I am a born and bred New Zealander, I cannot be a Kiwi??????? IMO that does not make sense. Answer me this : at what point does a country become an ethnic group?
A

433505 2006-02-26 21:18:00 Quite frankly I think the whole census is a waste of time and money. It was more understandable before computers but now most of the imformation could be collated from other sources. Was it really neccessary for them to spend so much on advertising when we supposedly can't avoid it anyway.
And yes I am a Kiwi or New Zealander. I can't live permanently in the country of my ancestors origin. In actual fact going through immagration last time there I wondered if I was in the right country.

433506 2006-02-26 21:32:00 I absolutely agree Mike.

Mind you, after the last census they did discover that an overwhelming number of inhabitants in our fair country had more than the average number of legs. ;)

Breathtaking stuff! :waughh:
