434665 2006-03-01 04:27:00 Heh....If games start to be blanded down to suit a console controller then the PC platform is well on its way to being munted.

As it is MS are trying to steer gaming PC's into a PC-360, Direct ports playing straight off the optical drive, 360 gamepads.

ugh.

Suits need to stay the hell away from what they dont understand, meanwhile MS will lose another 6 billion pushing there crap and telling us that their vision is what we really want.

I actually half agree with you, but the huge amount of current controllers need a lot of configuration for different games, or ain't supported by the game at all .

This is one of the few times I would be happy to see MS with a Monopoly (game controllers I mean) . I can't see the industry unilaterally supporting another controller manufacturer in the future .

This one has been a mess for a long time .

434667 2006-03-01 06:12:00 hmmm........Personally I cant stand pre-defined control layouts, first thing I do when I install a game is set the control mappings to my preference, This imo is one of the strengths of PC gaming.

Though if your saying the control devices are installed into Winows and working correctly but not suported by certain games then Im yet to have the issue, I have multiple joysticks, game pads and 3 steering wheels.......They all work in every game I have wanted them to.

434668 2006-03-01 06:37:00 what sort of games would benifit from a console type controller? I can only think of sports games (and racing games if you can't afford a decent steering wheel).

FPS would suffer greatly if the games were designed for a controller, rather than the more precise input of a mouse. Imagine all the rich boys with the most expensive input devices finding them useless because the game was made for the inprecision of a controller.

434669 2006-03-01 06:49:00 I pretty much only use mt gamepad for sports games (Rugby League) and arcade racing games like colin Macrea series, Trackmania, NFS, These games are designed for a pad and suffer when you use a wheel.

Which ties in nicely with your second paragragh, This is exactly the vision MS has, Making the single playing feild, Direct port with console controls,Once again reducing the superior platform to match their flagship (ugh) gaming product.

434670 2006-03-01 07:12:00 I would never buy a Microsoft controller again!, after the fiasco that was the original ff steering wheel.
Unless they are into flight sims or racing sims, no controllers are rrequired as per the other posters. Keyboard & mouse are the best.
