690147 2008-07-19 00:51:00 Hi all
I'm new here and i have a few issues i was wondering weather someone would help me out with .

First of all is a windows Vista 32 bit question or problem . .
I've just upgraded my RAM to 4Gb and yet Vista says theres only 3007MB of RAM . . . which is strange but then again Vista can be strange at times .
Anyway i read somewhere that Vista can't read 4Gb and that it will say 3Gb RAM while 1 GB is sent of to help other processes and what not around the P . C .
Is this correct?? and why does it not pickup that there is 4Gb RAM??
Its no big deal i'm just wondering why this is .

Second is a Gaming issue i need help with,
I installed Battlefield 2 and went to play it, clicked on the shortcut, black splash screen startup popped up . . stayed there for 3 or 4 seconds then CTD!?
I went to where the error dump file is and found it was empty so i made BF2 run Windowed so i could get an error Message and this is what i gave me:

BF2 ERROR

Debug assertion failed!

Version: 1 . 0 . 2442 . 0 Build date: 2005-5-23 0:42
Module: RendDX9
File: c:\dic\projects\bf2\code\BF2\RendDX9\Video options . cpp
Line: 234

Text: Unknown DynamicOption Value 800x600
Current confile:
Cancel Try again Continue

If anyone has any idea what all that means i'd be glad to know . The thing is i had BF2 installed about a month ago and it went fine but now it does not work . In that time i've got AVG8 and updated my Gfx card but i am unsure to weather that would effect it . Its annoying me as to what is wrong as i've tryed afew things, turned off all anti-Virus and Ad aware gear and tryed afew other methods but no good . Some help from anyone here would be great .

Thanks for your time, and thanks in advance

690148 2008-07-19 01:06:00 You wont see all of 4 GB unless its 64 bit .

What youre seeing is a limitation of 32 bit

This applies to XP, and Vista 32 bit

Try some of the replies here ( . gamecrashes . com/BattleField_2_Error:_Debug_Assertion_Failed-t1-22-22 . htm" target="_blank">www . gamecrashes . com)

690149 2008-07-19 01:11:00 The ram issue is easy.
32bit operating systems cannot see or use 4gig of ram, they top out between 3 and 3.5 that extra 1 or .5 gig is completely wasted on the system.
In order to use 4 or more gig you need a 64bit OS.

The game looks like its defaults have been reset Text: Unknown DynamicOption Value 800x600

Try using any outside game config tools, (most games have them now) to reset it.

690150 2008-07-19 01:51:00 Thanks Speedy Gonzales & DeSade

So its a 32bit limit for the RAM... ahh i see that makes some sense now.

As for BF2.. thanks for that link Speedy Gonzales i shall try some of what they did to get it working. I just don't understand why its doing it.. i think my new Gfx card is doing this somehow.. and maybe my Toshiba 32" LCD HDTV refresh rate lol.

I have one more question, I have no sound when playing Crysis?? I'm using the bulit-in HDMI sound output feature on my Gfx, all sound on the P.C works fine even in the other games i have but when i start Crysis i lose my sound. I found i get sound in Crysis if i use the VIA HD sound which is part of the mainboard..

I forgot to add my specs in the last post
so heres my P.C specs if this helps:

MainBoard: Gigabyte VM900M
OS: Vista Home Premium 32Bit
HDD: 1x Seagate 80Gb SATA, 1x Seagate 40Gb
CPU: Intel core 2 Duo E4400 2.4Ghz
RAM: 4Gb DDR-2 667
GPU: HIS ATi 3870 512MB GDDR4
PSU: 650w Coolermaster

690151 2008-07-19 01:56:00 It could be the refresh rate it maybe too high for the game

Its a limitation of 32 bit operating systems (windows).

You'll probably see all of the 4G, if you installed something like Linux

690152 2008-07-19 06:42:00 I've been trying all sorts of things to get BF2 to go but still nothing, any advice or ideas would be very welcome at this stage. my brains just about fryed trying to think of different ways i could get it going. :(

And i still have the Crysis sound problem too :(

Yes, regardless of it being Vista or XP.
